Mike Wallace is accustomed to asking the tough questions. Tuesday night, his aggressive personality got him arrested by two Taxi & Limousine Commission inspectors when he lunged at one during a parking dispute on the Upper East Side, the TLC said.
Three witnesses, however, said the inspectors overreacted and that the gathering crowd booed as the "60 Minutes" personality was arrested.
Wallace, 86, was handcuffed and taken to the 19th Precinct station house, where he was issued a summons for disorderly conduct and released.
Wallace was picking up a meat loaf dinner at a restaurant when two TLC inspectors started questioning the driver of the for-hire vehicle Wallace was riding in. The car was double-parked at East 79th Street and 3rd Avenue, according to TLC spokesman Allan Fromberg.
As the driver was being questioned, Wallace emerged from the restaurant, Luke's Bar & Grill. When he saw what was happening, he "began to interfere" with the inspectors, Fromberg said.
"He became overly assertive and was reported to be disrespectful to the inspectors," Fromberg said. "He was asked three times to step away from the vehicle and cease interfering. At one point Mr. Wallace appeared to lunge toward one of the two inspectors. The other inspector became concerned with his partner's safety and at that point cuffed Mr. Wallace."

Very disappointing. ......I was almost sure Wallace would resort to the tried and true "Do you know who I am?" card.
"You can't park here"
"You can't tell ME, the great liberal Wallace, what to do!"
"You can't park here"
"I'm the Great Wallace!! Didn't you HEAR ME? Don't you know who I am?"

"Help, help, I'm being victimized!!"
"My poor friend Mr. Wallacth was thimply getting into his car in front of my fine establishment when the nazi republican cops attacth him! I almost broke a nail"
Memo to Mr. Wallace:
Hit policeman, bad. Occasionally fatal.
He's one of those repeat offenders. He was busted on the same charges in 1796, 1842, and 1887.
Car inspectors have handcuffs? Nanny state to the rescue.
more like the great Cornholio
How in the World can you live to be 86 on a diet of Meat Loaf dinners?
probally a nightstick, mace, and even possibly a gun, alot of places they are regular police officers acting in that capacity. in any case they are officers of the law and should not be attacked by crazy old men.
You are terrible.
But funny
Yep, I'm pretty sure it's the same guy.
my bad. You're absolutely correct.
Did he get a mug shot taken? I want to see it on The Smoking Gun.
Yup. Here is a preview copy. Sans Makeup:
Yeah, sure................And I'm Babe Ruth.
I remember that story! Only in that story, Wallace's shenanigans were filmed by security cameras and, later on, he was forced to apologized to his victim d'jour by his superiors at CBS.
I bet he was dying for another smoke while waiting to be released. This is verrrrrrrrry funny, it couldn't have happened to a more smug human being either.
