Indeed, I have often opined that if I lived in Alaska, I might well opt for a 10MM Glock with pre ban 15 round mags. I could dump 15 deep pentrating big bullets into a target faster than I could crank off 3 rounds from a 44 mag.
Course', if you are down to facing a bruin with any pistol, you are in a seriously bad situation to begin with.
Does 10mm have more stopping power or muzzle velocity than .45 ?
Then you are pretty much down to the S&W 500. It's the badest boy on the lot. More energy at the muzzle than the .444 Marlin or .454 Cusul. 1600-.444. 1900-.454. and 2600-.500.
The 10MM only puts out about 700 with a decent 175 JHP. Much more managable and at 1400 fps, a really good knock down round for human size targets.
