FXNWS' CAMERON CAPTURE KERRY IN 3 MORE LIES - TO SENIORS!
WMCA-NY ^ | 8.12.2004

Posted on 08/12/2004 11:45:38 AM PDT by KMC1

It's compulsive...he can't help it. It is the knee jerk to anything that is bad. And the philosophy of the campaign is "we'll clean it up later".

This is blatantly obvious on the "I spent Christmas Eve in Cambodia" claim that he repeated more than 50 times over 4 decades...but yesterday he blatantly LIED to seniors on the campaign trail - and it took less than 40 years to prove it.

As FOX NEWS' Carl Cameron reported:

Lie #1. - "I proudly and I think rightly voted against this prescription drug bill."

Fact - Kerry skipped the vote.

Lie #2. - "I think the distortions on the other side are just stunning"

Fact - President Bush has only sited Kerry's New Hampshire campaign speech...

Lie #3. - "...they say I want to repeal it, no I don't, I want to FIX it!"

Fact - "If I am President I pledge to you that we will repeal that phony bill..." ~Kerry/New Hampshire campaign stop

To: Use It Or Lose It

He's prolly been getting away with it for 20+ years, cuz he didn't have national media coverage & local media he always dealt with was friendly.

When they talk about "vetting" candidates in the primaries, this is the kind of thing in their final pick that they're hoping to weed out. They forced false party unity, so the victor of their primaries didn't have any new open bleeding wounds created by the other primary challengers for the big bad to use to go after him.

And Kerry is calling for mining fees:

Kerry mining fee proposal draws opposition in Nevada

ASSOCIATED PRESS

ELKO, Nev. (AP) - John Kerry's proposal to increase mineral royalties to raise money for national parks has drawn strong opposition from officials and mining interests in Nevada, which produces 81 percent of the nation's gold.

"John Kerry's proposal to levy taxes and fees on our mining industries will turn thriving Nevada mining towns into ghost towns," Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., said in a statement.

Kerry has proposed an 8 percent royalty fee on precious metals dug from federal land, while doubling the claim fee to $200 and eliminating land patents.

Kerry said in a statement released by his campaign that reforms of the 1872 mining law would raise an additional $600 million a year for national parks, the Elko Daily Free Press reported.

"Together, we're going to do better and build a stronger America by preserving our national parks," Kerry said in the statement.

Kerry's proposal on the campaign Web site states that annual shortfalls of more than $600 million have "resulted in rampant understaffing and site closures" in the national parks system, the Free Press reported on Wednesday.

But Jack Gerard, president of the National Mining Association, said the Kerry plan would cost between 18,000 and 44,000 jobs "and result in a net loss to the federal treasury of $400 million to $500 million based on an independent analysis."

"Sen. Kerry obviously has not done his math. He would destroy the highest paying jobs in Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico ... to pay for entry-level service industry jobs and devastate mining communities throughout the West in the bargain," he said in a statement.

Nevada mines employ more than 10,000 people at salaries averaging more than $60,000, according to the Nevada Mining Association.

"John Kerry wants to pay for his many expensive proposals on the backs of our miners and rural residents, but he needs to reassess his promises if he thinks destroying Nevada jobs is the ticket to the White House," Ensign said.

Two of the largest mining companies in the world - No. 1 Newmont Mining Corp. and No. 3 Barrick Gold Corp. operate on the Carlin trend northeast of Elko. Nevada's 2003 gold production of 7.3 million ounces ranked it third behind the countries of South Africa and Australia.

The mining industry opposes a royalty on gross proceeds from mining, but has been willing in the past to accept a royalty of up to 5 percent on net proceeds, which was expected to be used for reclamation of abandoned mines.

These protestors must think Kerry will keep Yucca closed, even though he voted for it.

Presidential appearance draws protesters outside Vegas union hall

By CHRISTINA ALMEIDA
ASSOCIATED PRESS

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Several hundred protesters demonstrated Thursday outside a southern Nevada carpenters' union hall where President Bush spoke about jobs, the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste repository and the war on terror.

Chanting "No More Bush" and "Bush Lied," some in the crowd said they were upset about Bush administration union policies and the president's support for a planned national nuclear waste dump at Yucca Mountain, 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas.

Some criticized the symbolism of his appearance at the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners training center, in an industrial park near McCarran International Airport.

"He's totally against organizing," said Patrick Rush, 49, of Las Vegas, an organizer for the State of Nevada Employees Association and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

Rush said he wanted to tell Bush that Nevada residents don't want nuclear waste, and said it didn't matter if Bush addressed the Yucca Mountain issue during his speech.

"He goes against his promises all the time," Rush said.

The union official's comments echoed those of Democratic rival John Kerry during speeches he gave Tuesday and Wednesday in the Las Vegas area.

Kerry said Bush broke a promise from his 2000 campaign to ensure science, not politics, would decide whether Yucca Mountain would become the nation's nuclear waste repository. When Bush and Congress approved the site in 2002, many scientific studies remained unfinished.

The Bush campaign has accused Kerry of switching sides on the Yucca issue - pointing to the Massachusetts senator's votes for some measures affecting Yucca Mountain measures. In simple yes-or-no votes, however, Kerry has voted against the project.

"I listened to the people that know the facts and know the science and I made a decision," Bush said. "My opponent wants to turn the issue into a political poker chip."

The protesters were kept well away from the union training center that Bush said illustrated successful worker training policies.

"We're interested in finding things that work and heralding them," the president said to applause from an invited audience. "There are a lot of people willing to work, but the nature of jobs is changing. They need help and education to fulfill the new jobs of the 21st Century."

Las Vegas police said the 250 to 300 demonstrators remained peaceful under the watchful eye of about 60 officers. Some in the crowd were overcome by heat, but no serious injuries were reported.

The protest was organized by the Democratic party in Nevada, and included some union members upset about Bush administration policies on overtime for workers and union practices.

"I want to support getting Bush out of the White House. He has done more harm in four years than anybody else in history," said protester Julia Winkler, 44, an elementary school teacher from Las Vegas.

Her husband, David Winkler, 57, also a teacher, blamed Bush for the USA Patriot Act.

"He is infringing on our rights under a supposed banner of freedom," he said.

After the speech, the president was scheduled to fly to Santa Monica, Calif., for a Republican party fundraiser.

On Vegas stop, Kerry promises Yucca veto

By Kirsten Searer
<searer@lasvegassun.com>

LAS VEGAS SUN

Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry vowed for the first time Tuesday to veto any congressional attempts to loosen radiation standards on the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste project.

The promise came during a two-day sweep of the Las Vegas Valley in which Kerry continued to emphasize his opposition to the proposed nuclear waste repository. He also rebuffed criticism from Republicans that he voted in favor of some Yucca Mountain legislation.

"My votes show you that this is not an election campaign promise, and (Sen.) Harry Reid will tell you that," he said Tuesday night to a crowd of as many as 15,000 at the Thomas & Mack Center.

"When I'm president of the United States, I'll tell you about Yucca Mountain: Not on my watch," Kerry said.

The promise to veto legislation that would change the Yucca Mountain radiation standard comes in the middle of a court battle over the repository.

Earlier this year a federal appeals court said the Environmental Protection Agency did not follow the law setting radiation standards. The court suggested a standard significantly higher, a standard, which if enforced, would be impossible to meet, Yucca foes say.

Congress, though, could change the standard by passing a law.

Kerry, who leaves town this afternoon to continue his cross country tour, got some of his biggest cheers in Las Vegas when he decried the Bush administration's position on Yucca Mountain.

He spent part of Tuesday morning talking to a select audience at Ralph Cadwallader Middle School about Yucca Mountain.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the United States of America deserves a president of the United States who believes in science," he said at the school in the far northwest area of town -- a school near a proposed route to transport nuclear waste to Yucca Mountain.

"And it's not just the science of Yucca Mountain," he said. "It's the science of global warming. It's the science of stem cell research and the possibilities of the future. It's the science of clean air and clean water."

He called Yucca Mountain "a symbol of the recklessness and arrogance with which they are willing to proceed with respect to the safety issues and concerns of the American people."

Nuclear waste is safe now in temporary storage in nuclear power plants around the country, Kerry said.

"The dry cask storage and the water-filled pool storage that we have today at our nuclear sites is guardable," he said. "The Department of Energy and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission both find them safe."

He said he would charge the National Academy of Sciences to initiate a new scientific experiment, much like the Manhattan Project did to release the power of the atom in a bomb, Kerry said.

"We need a Manhattan Project that learns how to tame the negative consequences of the power of the atom," he said.

Kerry continued his bent on science, saying that exploring renewable energy will create jobs and lessen the country's reliance on oil.

"No young American in uniform should ever be held hostage to America's dependence on oil in the Middle East," he said.

Republicans argued that Kerry is pandering on the Yucca Mountain issue to win Nevada voters.

"His voting record until 1997 is one of supporting the repository and he voted to make Nevada the sole repository site for waste," Sen. John Ensign, R-Nev., said in a statement. "Nevadans deserve more than efforts to scare and mislead them."

On Tuesday, Kerry called the votes "procedural," saying he stuck with Nevada on "significant" votes.

Also on Tuesday, a 1999 letter signed by Kerry and three other senators surfaced that asked the chairman of the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources for an "accelerated (nuclear) waste acceptance schedule."

The letter did not mention Yucca Mountain specifically -- it mentioned a "centralized, permanent facility" -- but Yucca Mountain was the only site at the time identified as a nuclear waste storage space.

Republicans argued that the letter showed Kerry "flip-flops."

Kerry spokesman Sean Smith said he had not yet seen the letter. But Kerry has made it clear, Smith said, that he would stop Yucca Mountain.

"The differences between John Kerry and George Bush on this issue couldn't be clearer," Smith said after the Kerry rally. "You hear it tonight: John Kerry is going to do everything in his power to stop Yucca Mountain."

"Any attempt to bring up issues from the past is just Republicans trying to muddy the waters on this."

This morning, Kerry was scheduled to speak with seniors at the Valley View Recreation Center in Henderson about rising prescription drug costs before leaving. This is the third time Kerry has visited Nevada this year.

Kerry, who is in the midst of his post-convention "Believe in America" tour, arrived Monday evening at the Bellagio and was scheduled to remain in Las Vegas until this afternoon.

His extended stay in Nevada, coupled with President Bush's visit scheduled for Thursday, highlight Nevada's position as a battleground state.

Democrats said they were encouraged by the thousands who turned out Tuesday evening for the rally.

"This place was packed to the rafters," said John Asmussen, a 63-year-old Las Vegas retiree.

Kerry touched on the economy -- as well as international relations, college loans, health care, war and more -- during his half-hour stump speech Tuesday evening.

"I tell you, we have to get this economy moving because there is nothing worse than an unemployed flying Elvis," he joked.

Kerry promised to give tax credits to companies that don't outsource jobs overseas, block efforts to privatize social security, lower health care premiums, and offer loan repayments to people who pledge several years to public sector work such as being a math or science teacher.

Kerry will be putting himself in for another Purple Heart.

A campaign is just like combat, Mass is awfully close to cambodia. Self inflicted wounds were good enough for 2 medals...why not?

Seeing Kit Bond in that photo reminded me........A couple days ago I received a snail mail letter from Senator Bond's office.

snip,

Senator(my name, address, continues on Dear Senator(my last name),

Thank you for contacting me regarding the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. I appreciate your taking the time to share your concerns on the issue.

Memogate,being the issue, I assume.

In other words a form letter explaining the Senate Select Intelligence Committee's work. blah, blah

Still, it's nice to know my Senator is staying in touch with his constituents.

Kind of puzzling though when he addressed me as Senator. As his friend and colleague Joe Biden would tell me soon enough," That's above your pay grade."

Another troubling thing about this letter (besides being addressed as Senator BARLF )I had not written Senator Bond in years about anything. I tried that back during the Clinton years, never ever received a response from the Senator. Figured no use to keep wasting postage.

Now, in 2004 I get a very nice letter from the Senator in response to a letter I never wrote.

Strange.

Oh, now that I have been promoted from housewife to Senator do you think I can claim Senator benefits? That would be nice.

I am a little concerned at being addressed as Senator. After all, Senator Bond is on the Intelligence Committee.

*sigh*
