Man when I heard this I had tears in my eyes. This is great for Iraqi's. It's inspirational to me and them. I would love to see Iraq and the U.S.A playing for the gold. Sweet!!!

Amazing how well one can play when the pressure of being executed for a loss is taken away.

It would be cool if the Iraqi's played their anthem and the American anthem when they win a gold.

What ever the best Iraq did under Saddam, I hope this first free team from Iraq beats it.

Um...for those of us who absolutely refuse to sign up to newspaper sites (especially a liberal piece of toilet tissue like the Mercury News), can somebody post a longer excerpt? Or does somebody have a Mercury News login?
I have to admit, I'd love to see the Iraqis do well. The one fly in that ointment is if they wound up playing the US soccer team...and we won. Wonder what kind of soccer riots THAT would set off?

Time for the Iraqi's to take back their country from the insurgents. It's up to them!

Man when I heard this I had tears in my eyes.I watched the game on PMSNBC. The best programming they had in ages. The Iraqi team actually scored 5 of the six goals in the 4-2 win, they accidentally made one for Portugal.
This was a HUGH upset. I'd bet it's bigger news in Iraq than what's going on in Najaf, thankfully.

I thought I would be only one sentimental enough to tear up when they heard the news! It's a great life when something as simple as a soccer win can be so very emblematic!

I would think it cool if they actually win a medal. Although thats probably unlikely.
