Bangalore, Aug. 12. (UNI): Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman G Madhavan Nair today indicated that the Country can launch a manned mission to Space in seven to eight years timeframe.
Talking to newspersons here, he said a National debate should be carried out whether India should go in for such an expensive programme, which might cost the Exchequer around Rs 10,000 crore.

Wow!
I don't understand.
What are you trying to say?
If they experience a computer problem in space, they could call down to an American call center and probably get someone with a Southern accent that THEY couldn't understand!
Wooo-ey - just wait until all that vindaloo curry cuts in about 2 days after launch in that little bitty capsule.
Good. Interest in exploring and developing outer space is most intense in India, moreso than the US certainly, and at least as much as in China.
"Interest in exploring and developing outer space..."
Earth orbit is hardly "outer space" and even a trip to the moon is still within an Earth realm. But perhaps they will get to Mars or Venus and populate there instead of here. I wonder how they will get all their cows and other ancestors to whereever they go.
They know that. Some of the strongest cosmologists are Indian.
Everybody but us...
I predict they will own all the motels and gas stations on the moon in 15 years.
At least the US mastered clean drinking water before shooting for space.
I've heard of outsourcing, but this is getting ridiculous!
India's space programme is far less ambitious than China's -it aimed firstly at resource development, drought management, communications(distance education)-the "manned mission" if it materialises will probably take 10years given that an unmanned probe is due to be launched in 2007-which will also carry payloads from Israel,Canada,Germany & independent research institutions & b4 u blame Clinton, most of India's modern space programme has been developed with Russian help & on its own.It already has launched South Korean,Belgian & German satellites & in 2 years time a joint Indo-Israeli space exploration telescope will be launched.
& if it is not subsidised by American money, what's ur problem with it.
Because the international space station will smell like curry!!! Which is okay with me since I like the taste and smell of curry. We should invite them aboard and share information with them. Space is a world effort.
If everybody worked in a world space program, it might be just the one thing that would end all wars.
& as of now-I haven't seen anything bout India being a big(if any) part of the ISS-it's mainly a NASA-ESA(European)-Russian-Japanese effort.Though given the success countries like India,Israel & China have had in recent years in their space ventures & the amount of cash(primarily China & India) they can splurge, they might just get invited.
BTW is the ISS even near to its optimum operational capability??
No its not, but if everybody pulled together it could be and better. That is my point on world peace.
