How many times do we let this skunk and his supporters skip out on his final reckoning and only to create chaos another month down the road?
Plant him like an onion with his head in the ground.
Don't fall for it. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, thrice...
Simply slaughtering these guys is not a solution. This is all about allowing the central government to exert it's influence; to make these monkeys realize that Baghdad is now calling the shots.
Strike Team.
I prefer to let the natural process work, the Iraqi government must surely know this guy is bad news and that if they dont do something about him that as soon as the US leaves people like him will be emboldened.
My solution would be for the Iraqi government negotiators to simply at the beginning of the next negotiating session to behead him and throw his Islamist fanatic body out the window, then place his head on a pike in the town square.
Whatever happens the Iraqis have to do it, thats what this is all about and if we just decide to step in we are playing into Sadrs hands, that is why he was trying to bait us into destroying that stupid temple, he knew that would cause great problems, but we were smart enough to just use enough force to kill and capture about half his stupid army of pajama people.
I think the new govt was closer than it has been up to this point of pulling the plug,, the clock is ticking ,, next time. yeah, next time .. next holy city. ;-)
I'll bet that Sadr will win his demands, and set the stage for the collapse of democracy in Iraq.
Hope I lose.
Are we slow learners, or what?
Cut his head off. Put it on a pike. Let them get a dose of old time religion.
only if its amnesty by MOAB!!!
Sadr to his buds, "OK guyz, they've shot us up pretty good, including me. I'm gonna go negotiate a "cease fire" [chuckle]. You guyz get to restocking our stuff. Move it from the cemetery to the shrine. Afterward, the pizza's on me!"
Amnesty, shamnesty. Get rid of this radical and his followers once and for all.
Amnesty My Ass. These punks are killers!
You're right...it's simply the necessary first step..
The lunatic militants have not yet been "defeated" in the "Biblical sense".
They need to be slaughtered in sufficient numbers, and their treasured places razed as proof that their victory is impossible - and that further resistance will lead to extinction...
Otherwise-- the Iraqi will be battleing with various lunatic "clerics" and outlaws for the rest of their lives..
Peace can not come - until the enemy is DEFEATED or DESTROYED.

I want to know where this guy went to scholl for negotiating techniques. I'll bet the lead instructor was the Black Knight from Monty Python's Search For The Holy Grail.
It is better to have this guy as a dead martyr than as a living hero. Allowing Sadr to dictate terms gives him credibility with the disaffected throughout Iraq and the Middle East. He wants to play on the main stage with the big boys, and he has to learn there are high costs for failure to follow the script. It would be best to teach him, and any possible emulators, the lesson now when the cost is relatively low than to wait as we did with Saddam.
It's not "WE"- it's the Iraqi Government's call...

Agreed, yet the stops and starts are allowing the fledgling government to exert authority.
When these monkeys get eliminated the whole country has to know that Baghdad was behind it.
Unconditional Surrender or Death are the only acceptable results. This guy is a thug and his people are his cronies.
"Stops and starts"...also allow the enemy to regroup, refit and reinforce....and to claim victory if/when we withdraw during a phony "cease fire"...
The "Arab warrior" has a history of fighting until he sees defeat is certain -- then sue for "peace".....rearm and come back at you..
This crap has to stop..
Forces need to be totally destroyed once they initiate conflict -- or there is no down side to their being belligerent..
Certain death, is one hell of a disincentive to be a "problem" or pain in the ass.
