AUGUST 14TH, 2004

Authorities are planning to stage an airborne anti-terror training exercise Saturday evening in the skies above Manhattan.

The drill begins at 6 p.m. and will involve F-15 fighter jets, along with coast guard and NYPD helicopters.

The training exercise is in preparation for the upcoming Republican National Convention.

The drill is designed to test how quickly air defenses can respond to an attack at Madison Square Garden.

There have been several terror drills in the city in the past year.

In May, about 1,000 first responders took part in a terror training drill in a Manhattan subway station.

Thanks for posting. I'm hoping to hear a glimpse of the F-15's as long as it's a drill.

I'll never forget on 9-11 afternoon when a F-15 escort accompanied some VIP (doctors) helicopters from Fairfield County CT. The F-15 had to really do some cool stuff to stay with their slow pace.

Good luck to all involved in this drill.

I'm sure everybody offers their support..and thanks. But as Osama and his maniacs will undoubtedly read, or be told of, such reports, perhaps it might influence them into deciding that their next attack should not be an airborne one but from the ground - or possibly beneath it, and maybe not in NY. Why select a location where officialdom is super-alert and conditions known to be particularly tough?
