KALISPELL, Mont. -- Until he was arrested this year in his underwear in a motel room with a nearly naked young woman who was behind in her payments to his finance company, no businessman in this town was more respected than Richard A. Dasen Sr.

Didn't that pillar of society Bob Beckel pay a prostitute with a check, too? I think that is what led to his downfall only to be resurrected by FNC.

Sex will drive some men over a cliff. A powerful addiction it is.

I wonder if in this case it was even sex as much as it was power -- to rule over pathetic people he could control completely. Even take their cars from them if the sex wasn't good enough?

And it sounds like he has a pathetic enabling wife who is still with him.

You are right about small town people knowing everything that is going on in their town.

That can be nice too though --- in good small towns people look out for each other even while they're knowing everything.

More often it can be ugly. I lived in a small town for 16 years. I was never so ready to get back to the city.

Recently I had dinner with 3 women who live in a small town in another state. They launched into "gossip with gusto". I was sitting there having a flash-back to MY small town experience when one of the women apologized for talking about people I didn't know. As if talking viciously about people you DO know is OK. LOL

"They launched into "gossip with gusto".

LOL. I was proud of myself the other day for finding out I was not a gossip. I had heard the exact rumors about my state's now infamous Gov. McGreevy years ago, both here and from one of the attys at work. Yet hubby was stunned and amazed when McGreevy made his announcement. I guess I had never repeated to him what I had heard.

Maybe that's 'cause I'm a big city girl, in the big city nobody cares what you do, as long as you are not blocking the sidewalk. And I'd urge those lefty freaks who are planning to come to NYC for the convention to remember that.

I know a small town where the newspaper reports things like who got traffic tickets, whose going to have visitors for a week --- it's kind of funny. But the only good thing is that they'll call the sheriff if someone they don't recognize is messing around your property when you aren't home -- and of course they know if you're home or not.

Is meth horribly damaging to women's health, or is the overall lifestyle of meth addicts what harms them. I ask because millions (or hundreds of thousands) of kids take meth or something closely related to it for hyperactivity. I am not trolling for comments from people who think that ritalin is always a bad thing. I am simply hoping that someone could explain how close ritalin is to the meth that addicts use? Do hyperactive kids who use ritalin age quickly and look like hell by the time they are 21?

In the small town I lived in the bank tellers discussed your bank balance & savings account, the doctors nurse discussed your daughters out of wedlock pregancy (not my daughter she was a baby) & your ailments & don't get me started on the county courthouse, law suits, divorces etc, the teachers talked about your kids. I was raised in the city & taught that gossip was bad. This small town behavior hit me like a ton of bricks. ever again will I live in a place like that. Country living is nice as long as you do your business in the city.

My neighbors know when I am gone because I tell them.

People in very small towns/rural areas do know everything about everybody, but they don't do anything about it, from my experience. When everyone has some relationship to everyone else, people tend to keep quiet to keep their actions and relationships out of the news. Also, small town papers do not print anything that will incriminate the advertisers or rile the subscribers.

"Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?"

We should popularize it again, not to encourage behavior like that but to make a societal point. Didn't that line originate in Russia?

Thanks for bringing it up. ...keywords! Or do you happen to have a copy of the column, book or excerpt that it appeared in?

I agree. Men have a very strong psychological need for sex.
