The USA Men's Basketball team is losing by 22 points at the half to Puerto Rico. This is the largest deficit ever faced by a USA Olympic Basketball team since they went to NBA players.

Only one team showed up to play in the first half.

I have contended for a long time that the problem with letting NBA players into the Olympics is that they do not understand the team game. Most of these guys haven't played a zone defense in years, and never against good players. Now that there is some tallent elsewhere in the world, augmented by some NBA players, I think there will be more problems for the US team.

The NBA marketing move toward a star system is costing us in this case.

Congrats to PR for an excellent team win.

That was a major problem, that so many players dropped out.

Its a good day for Iraq, I'm happy for them. Now I just wish they could beat France at some point I would be down right giddy.

Saw Iverson shooting airballs from 3 point land all second half. These clowns don't have a clue of what it means to play as a team.

Iverson (...being interviewed after the game): "We still have a chance to turn this thing around."

Famous last words?

It would help if he would have bothered to set himself instead of just lobbing them like he was in some Hooters playing that free throw game with the time limit.

It is like having Hulk Hogan enter the greco-roman wrestling competition.

You captured it perfectly.

Frankly I could care less if they lose.

How much less could you care, a little or a lot?

Go Iraq! Down With USA Basketball! Never thought I'd be typing this!

Seriously, the 'Raqis need something to cheer about. And something to do besides b!tching about the 'mericans. The USA b-ball team seems to have an attitude problem. Plus, a lot of it is about the NBA recruiting more internationals. If it's improving the international game, more power to them.

As long as we never, ever, lose to france.

IRAQ WINS!

If Rudy is going to coach the Lakers I sure wish they would have gotten rid of Kobe instead of Shaq. Shaq's always wanted to play for Rudy, I think. He would be a team player if he ever got the chance, and Kobe's one of the worst showboats of all. Never liked that kid.

"....but the fundamentals aren't there as much as before."

True, but I see it as an attitude more than a "lack" of fundamentals.

I don't watch NBA basketball any more because they don't play basketball.

After attending a few games and watching the floor through binoculars, I see stuff that would have gotten us ejected from the game when I played it in high school. They travel all the time, very few of them even have a legitimate dribble and the amount of physical contact is criminal.

They need a new name for NBA basketball - something like "Cross Country Bear Wrestling," or "Full-Body Contact Handball." Whatever it is, it ain't "basketball!"
