Gore stopped for speeding on Oregon coast

ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) — Former Vice President Al Gore was cited for speeding as he drove a rented car to visit family on the coast, authorities said.

Gore, who was alone, was issued a $141 ticket for driving 75 miles per hour on Highway 26 in the northwest corner of the state, police said. The speed limit is 55.

Gore was issued the ticket on Aug. 3 at 12:37 p.m., said Lt. Dale Rutledge, spokesman for the Oregon State Police.

The trooper who stopped Gore did not recognize him until he furnished his license, Sgt. Andrew Merila told KATU-TV.

The trooper said Gore, who carried Oregon when he ran for president in 2000, was polite throughout the encounter.

Gore has until December to decide whether to fight the ticket.

A phone message left after hours at Gore's office in Tennessee was not immediately returned.

75 mph in a 55 mph zone? Twenty miles over the speed limit. Isn't that considered Reckless Driving in most states? In IN 15 mph over the speed limit will get you a reckless driving charge.

One of the fortunate few who had forgotten what Gore looks like. The rest of us should be so lucky.

Here in Ohio, 20 miles over the limit would get your license pulled on the spot...Oregon won't do it for 25 over???

What Al Gore might have said to the cop:

"This speed limit has betrayed our country!"

"I invented the highway!"

"I had too much prune juice this morning, and I was trying to find a spot where I wouldn't ruin the environment."

"Did you know that I was in Vietnam, too? And that I ran for President once?"

"No, I am not a crash test dummy."

"I know Bill Clinton-hey! Why are you putting me in handcuffs???"

I really hate the Democratic People's Republic of Oregon, actually the whole left coast in general. Portland is the worst and is full of sodomites, tree huggers, pot smokers, hippies, and feminazis.

I got a ticket for going 75 in a 45 in the middle of nowhere. Oregon likes to randomly place a couple of orange barrels on the side of the road and call it a "construction" zone (read speed trap). The ticket was $300. In neighboring Idaho or Nevada, 75 would be completly legal.

In addition, you can't even pump your own gas! I was in Portland a few months back and I paid $2.49/gal for gas! Cost me $45 to fill up my Nissan Maxima!

Two things:
1) You don't get reckless driving here in Oregon short of going like a bad out of hell. The reason is all the speed limits are insanely low. The population and traffic just keep getting worse, so they keep passing more and more speed laws to slow us down more and more. If they posted any lower speeds than they do now people would riot.

2) You paid $2.49 a gallon because you gassed up near or inside portland. You have to be a loony duck to get anywhere near downtown. It's overcrowded, parts are quite dangerous, and it feels like entering an insane asylum every time you go there. I live less than 10 miles from downtown, and someone has to get me to bend over backwards to go there. I would turn down a good job just to avoid the core.

He should of cuffed him and slammed him on the hood... all on camera....

That would have been great.

Speeding at very high speeds seems to be a problem which afflicts the Gore males...

Wow. I vacation down there. It would be truly bizarre to bump into Al Gore at Cannon Beach.

John F*ckin' would have said to the trooper, "I wasn't aware of the speed limit before you informed me to be aware of the speed limit."

....And the video footage replays on the "Hot Pursuit" segment of FOX News With Shepard Smith, or America's Dumbest Criminals. (Afterall he did try to steal Florida in 2000).

They really do live in the 1960's. I'll be damn! I think it's been about 20 or 30 years since I remember my folks driving up to a gas pump and being served by a gas station attendant.
