Statement By Swift Boat Veterans for Truth Member Larry Thurlow
I am convinced that the language used in my citation for a Bronze Star was language taken directly from John Kerry's report which falsely described the action on the Bay Hap River as action that saw small arms fire and automatic weapons fire from both banks of the river.
To this day, I can say without a doubt in my mind, along with other accounts from my shipmates-there was no hostile enemy fire directed at my boat or at any of the five boats operating on the river that day.
I submitted no paperwork for a medal nor did I file an after action report describing the incident. To my knowledge, John Kerry was the only officer who filed a report describing his version of the incidents that occurred on the river that day.
It was not until I had left the Navy-approximately three months after I left the service-that I was notified that I was to receive a citation for my actions on that day.
I believed then as I believe now that I received my Bronze Star for my efforts to rescue the injured crewmen from swift boat number three and to conduct damage control to prevent that boat from sinking. My boat and several other swift boats went to the aid of our fellow swift boat sailors whose craft was adrift and taking on water. We provided immediate rescue and damage control to prevent boat three from sinking and to offer immediate protection and comfort to the injured crew.

And in a new development, Kerry campaign officials are now finally acknowledging that while Kerry's boat left the scene, none of the other boats on the river ever left the damaged swift boat. This is a direct contradiction to previous accounts made by Jim Rassmann in the Oregonian newspaper and a direct contradiction to the "No Man Left Behind" theme during the Democratic National Convention.
These ever changing accounts of the Bay Hap River incident by Kerry campaign officials leave me asking one question. If no one ever left the scene of the Bay Hap River incident, how could anyone be left behind?

Release all the records from the original citations to the medical records to after action reports from Kerry and ALL the captains involved in ANY and ALL patrols that took place jointly.
Release all the records. Since the media used FOIA this time, can't everyone else?
He then went on to mumble something about getting out of the way and that's why they moved upriver.........
So they're trying to mitigate the damage by the truth.....but it's toooo late. IMHO.

They should have denounced Kerry's campaign for blaming Bush for SwiftVets. Bush has said nothing of Kerry's vietnam service and he wont.
As we know, 527's cannot be connected in any way to Bush 04.
But of course the "seriousness of the charge" will push the media into reporting Kerry's rediculous claim.

They endured 12 months of being shot at and being mined. There is nothing the Dems and Media can do to stop them. They have 35 years of pent of emotion, and I suspect they know how many of us out here are on their side. All they have to do is look at the donations coming in.

John Kerry has completely reversed his story about being in Cambodia on Christmas Eve of 1968. Rather than showing some spine and admitting his lie and apologizing, he clutches to a ridiculous story of running guns into Cambodia. To even raise this story after being caught in a 35 year lie, he should have at least multiple witnesses and documentation. This is the equivalent of Woodwards and Bernstein admitting there was never any Deep Throat and they made up the whole story with John Dean! These two stories wove the fabric of America’s dark days.
Kerry has used his false eye witness account of various war crimes to damage the Military, the CIA and America’s pride. Thirty five years of repeating these eye witness accounts was the foundation of the anti-America crowd and they were complete lies. He has had to admit that he was not in Cambodia which exposes the remainder of his war crime claims.
You can tell everything about the character of a man in how he reacts under pressure. The first time someone “Brings it on” he shows his complete lack of spine. Rather than saying that he exaggerated the Cambodia story in his exuberance to end a war, he sticks with the same lie! He claims a ridiculous story of sneaking a Swift Boat with it’s loud twin diesels into Cambodia for the CIA, illegally running guns for the Communist resistance. Rather than simply admitting his guilt, he has to impugn the CIA and President Nixon again! This boat needs to be scuttled.
Whether John Kerry hates Presidents LBJ, Richard Nixon or impersonates JFK; it does not matter, he has no right to continue his lies about the Vietnam War. He is an admitted liar about one of his stories and has no right for anyone to believe him about the remaining war crime charges. Millions of us believed what John Kerry said during the war and felt he had no reason to make these stories up. We believed he was a man of virtue in an immoral war, but we were wrong. How could any man do or say what he did and said to hurt his country??
It is the highest honor to be an eyewitness to a war crime, it is the criminal to falsely accuse someone of war crimes. Since he has never found any other witnesses or had any of his fellow accusers sign affidavits, we can now assume that his entire testimony was a series of lies. He has never been able to give actual instances to any of his so-called war crimes, only generalities. He continues this method of lying with the newest Cambodia story. Rather than coming clean with America about his past, he takes the easiest path and continues the masquerade.
Why won’t Kerry tell the truth about this story. It is simple really. He knows that the Cambodia lie disqualifies Kerry for Senator let alone President of the United States during a time of war. Once the country understands the magnitude of this lie or that anyone is capable of doing what he did, he is no longer trustworthy enough for the Oval Office. To live this lie for 35 years and even as late as last November with the CIA hat story, he needs to put his facade to rest. Kerry for the good of John Kerry and the country needs to come clean with his Cambodia lie, his false atrocities testimony then apologize to his fellow Vietnam veterans, America, and resign from the race. Richard Nixon did the Honorable thing, now is the time for his false witness to finally do his.

No one was left behind. The other boats were doing their best to rescue the men in the water. When Kerry turned back he picked up Rassmann. Pure chance as to who was picked up by which boat.

Reading BOTH articles...and the one above and is in fact saying that WHERE did this report copme from that was used in BOTH citations!
Can someone help me with a question? A few months ago, Wesley Clark wrote a New York Times editorial column entitled "Medals of Honor." In it, if I remember correctly, he argued that Kerry deserved the medals because they were approved by the officers higher up in his chain of command.
I guess that sounds reasonable, but doesn't assume truthfulness on the part of the people who initiated the request for medals? Isn't it like saying that just because my boss approves my expense report, that everthing I put on it is honest?
I also have seen questions here about exactly who can request a medal, specifically about requesting a medal for onesself. Is it
- totally prohibited
- allowed but uncommon
- allowed and encouraged

Mentioning that people who were on the boats have conflicting tales of that day...and is saying again that the REPORT issued to receive the Bronze stars were the SAME and WHERE WHERE WHERE did this report come from...there is interesting "ties" of this report to TWO bronze stars and ONE is stating THAT isn't what happened...
you are right - I noted early on that it was clear these men would not be like the poor women the Clintonista hacks were able to threaten and intimidate.
