Oliphant's repeated claims that the SBVs claims don't meet the high journalistic standards of the mainstream media are about the most pathetic defense I've heard so far.

I've noticed that a lot of the "journalists" are acting, lately, as though they are specially ordained dispensers of the truth.

They are laughable.

The real truth, from any source, trumps biased scribblings from someone with a piece of paper from journalism school.

Yes. O'Neill has great presence.

O'Neill is the perfect man for the job. He comes across instantly as credible and sincere. He focuses like a laserbeam, chooses his words well, and is unflappable (as Beelzebubba said). He's got the perfect personal bearing to go toe to toe with the weaselly Kerry campaign. If I were Kerry, I'd be having nightmares about O'Neill.

From the SBVfT BBS ... this bears repeating:

Oliphant tried to brand all the Kerry lied stories as "Tabloid Journalism", but Lehrer himself squelched him on that -- Lehrer" "It's not in the tabloids now -- it's on this show!"

All the swiftees have is eye-witness reports from 60 veterans. The mainstream media usually runs with unnamed sources and speculation.

Any sort of man can be brave. It is not a quality exclusive to the virtuous, much as we may wish it to be.

Frontline could do a nice job with this story. I usually have to look twice when I see the topics they tackle ... it is soooo unlike the rest of the PBS agenda.

I just got in from work and wanted to pass on my attempt to get THE BOOK today....went to Waldenbooks at Willowbrook Mall here in Houston and when asked if I needed help I answered, "Yes, I need the 9/11 Commission Report and UFC"....she replied (an overweight hippie type) sorry, there was a recall and we had to returned our copies and we're not going to be able to get anymore. I just looked at her then started laughing and said, "I got to tell ya, that's the most original lie yet I've heard with regards to that book" Called B&N - same ole story - out of stock, don't know when we'll get it in but will take your name...blah blah blah. I asked if there was a long waiting list and he replied YES....said they sold out immediately and it's just up to the publisher when they can get it. Thank goodness for the Washington Times - at least I can read the excerpts from there!

There could have been a recall. I have heard of instances where books were shipped without photos.

But orders are being fulfilled, so the line about not being able to get it is false (I would have asked to talk with a manager).

Think it is about time for an O'neill - Kerry debate rematch. That would be awesome.

And be nice. Some of these libs were mentally mutilated as puppies, in college. They don't know any better. Show compassion. Truth is on our side.

Leher may surprise you. He is a lib.

No doubt, but he seems to have enough journalistic conscience to air a big story he doesn't like.

Maybe he is simply savvy enough to see that this story will happen with or without him, and he might as well do it honorably. (Which he did).

The only problem is that the full story requires a 12-hour miniseries, and not a 12-minute segment.

Just saw it in my time zone. A
tossup as to who was more arrogant
& snotty - Kerry on the newsclips
or Oliphant on with O'Neill. Hey,
Tommy, did Kerry's attacks on all
Vietnam Vets pass your standard
of "high journalism"???

Didn't think so.

Thank you for your summary. I just heard from a liberal who saw the program and he said that O'Neill could only say "almost conclusive" to a major point. Can you shed any light on that for me?

You are right on the mark. I watched the whole interview and John O'Neill was great! I was actually amazed that Jim Leher was as neutral as he was. He took neither side, but let each side have their full say without interuption.

This from a Regnery e-mail sent to me today. There are three hundred and fifty thousand books in print right now. They will be available next week! This book is going to be a blockbuster and these honorable vets with just a few bucks are going to destroy John Kerry! Buy the book "UNFIT FOR COMMAND" today and support the SBVs with our small cash donations! Just imagine if this book outsells both Bill & Hillary Clinton's book, and with no advertising money also! AMAZING!!!

He knows damn well he was spinning and oneil didnt skip a beat !

Thats how i seen it anyway anyone else see it like that ?
