Upcoming NYTIMES piece on the swiftboat vets?
Instapundit ^ | 08/19/04 | Glenn Reynolds

ANOTHER UPDATE: And here's an example, in the "budget" from the New York Times, advising affiliate papers of what's coming:

ANTI-KERRY-ADS (Undated) - The story of how swift boat veterans with a grievance were found by Republicans looking to tarnish Kerry's image, and soon came to be running ads, writing books and blanketing cable television in a modern day tale of the creation of a political attack machine. But some of the veterans have recanted their stories or made charges that military records prove untrue. A look at how the veterans were organized and what they claim. By Kate Zernike and Jim Rutenberg.

With photos and a graphic.

Editors, will move in both full and abridged forms.

Will it say that the Cambodia story has already panned out? I doubt it.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Paul Shelton emails:

Looks like two weeks after having "fled the scene" of the swiftboat vets story, the big media is finally returning to pull Kerry out of the water. O'Neill was on CNN's Lou Dobbs show and then on Newshour with Jim Lehrer. I guess Kerry's apublic acknowledgement of the story today in front of the firefighters gave the coded signal for the big media to finally return to the scene to save him.

Heh. Anybody know if Lehrer mentioned Cambodia?

I liked it better when the MSM was ignoring the story.

Once Again the Democrats are "Disenfranchising" veterans......

They act as though its ONLY the Swift Boat Vets that do not believe that John Kerry should be POTUS or told the truth about his time in Vietnam...his purple hearts his medals for valor or about Vietnam veterans after Kerry used vets to get himself into the limelight and elected to office...

Most of Americans Veterans dislike Kerry and will vote against him in the upcoming election
But their insight or opinions in the JFKerry scandal and their voices are being ignored by the lamestream anti Bush anti Conservative press..

A poll I heard about today stated only 35% of Veterans prefer Kerry......55% Bush
IMO that will change as the Swift Boat ads get more air play and Swift Boat vets get more air time....Kerry's credibility is sinking.....

imo

It is quite disgusting and irresponsible to not report a Presidential candidate's admission of a 30 year falsehood.

My cynical guess is that he did not.

The story of how swift boat veterans with a grievance were found by Republicans looking to tarnish Kerry's image,

It sure was easy to find lots of them. Lots of them who served in nearby boats, too. LOL.

Benedict Arnold REALLY was a war hero before he was a traitor.

They called President Bush stupid, They said he was AWOL, they called him a drunk. They produced a movie F-911 attacking our President, James Carville the attack dog of the DNC has been on Bush like a hip pocket, all this time President Bush acted Presidential he took it all and kept doing his job.
Bush has stated time and time again that he respects Kerry's time in service.President Bush stated that the 527's were not right that they should not be allowed, He disavowed hinself completely from the Swiftees. Kerry never tried to stop the DNC attack he never stated that he respected Bush's service , in fact he denigrated the National Guard while they are in Iraq Fighting. He never disavowed F-911 at no time did he say carville was full of crap.
Now the pressure is on Kerry , the attack is on him and he cries its Bushs fault, he begs the President to get the Swiftees off his back. Now he wants to have a "sensitive" campaign. He wont produce his Military records , but he makes wild claims of going into Cambodia, running guns and delivering secret agents wearing "magic hats". Are the Swiftees right or wrong? I dont know I wasnt there

But I do know President Bush has acted Presidential under pressure and Kerry has folded up like a cheap pair of Drawers.Cryingt , pissing and moaning, begging to be let up.
Is this what America wants ? A president that cries when the chips are down? Whining that he is a Veteran and cant be treated this way? Maybe the Democrats want this whining sack of crap for a President , I dont> I want a man I can count on to honor his word. president Bush has said he would fight terrorism till it was destroyed and by damn he is doing it come hell or high water or Whining Democrats.

Exactly. It's so transparent, too.

Well, all the fun's over guys. The MSM is going to re-write history in Kerry's behalf."

They can try. But I wonder if the gatekeepers have lost. these days the internet is chock full of fiskers eager to tear apart Kerry's architecture of lies and exaggerations.

But the MSM cannot ignore this one. The blogosphere and talk radio will reduce the likelihood of success of ignoring it. Kerry will keep it on page one (if below the fold) because the SBVT will keep bleeding him.

Upcoming NYTIMES piece on the swiftboat vets?

Well, get ready to hear about every divorce, parking ticket, DUI/DWI,
and jay-walking charge ever leveled against one of the SwiftBoat Veterans for Truth.

And this will all be coming from the party that foisted universal abortion rights
with a non-existence "right to privacy"...

Supposedly the book is to appear on the NYT's bestseller list (if it already hasn't). It would be difficult for the NYT to studiously ignore THAT.

Seeing it again, "But some of the veterans have recanted their stories or made charges that military records prove untrue" motivated another comment. NYT says "some" but I am aware only of one, and he (I cannot recall his name at the moment) stated quite clearly that the Boston Globe misquoted him. The SBVT are solid, so far, unlike this quote's characterization of them, and in Kerry's face. They have the truth on their side. They have not recanted, and Kerry is afraid. Kerry and contemporary liberalism will fail in this round.

Be strong: truth is on our side. Send the SBVT a donation!

In the world of normality that you, I and most humans inhabit...yes.

But never underestimate the ability of the NY Times (and lots of journalists) to
detach themselves from reality.

Reality has never diverted them before from their liberal course, and I don't see happening now even if this book is number one for a year.

Wait until this new ad from the Swifties hits TOMMORROW. It will make the first ad look like a "Barbie" commericial (if it takes form as was reported earlier today, here on FR).

This will knock the Times piece off the page...

If every one who admires the courage of the swift vets sends them $100, they will never fail in this battle.

Mrs. B agreed with my suggestion to do just that.
