A 2-year-old boy died of heat exhaustion in Healdsburg on Thursday after his allegedly intoxicated mother left him and his 4-year-old brother in a locked van in 90-degree heat for about eight hours, police said.
The mother of Liam Paulsen, 35-year-old Rena Corban, apparently began drinking in the morning and passed out on a couch when she returned home around 10 a.m. after running errands with the children, according to Healdsburg police Sgt. Toni Pinochi.

RIP little one. May God save the older brother.
As for the mother, empty wine bottles in the van.......she passed out drunk when she got home leaving the two little ones locked in the car..........that woman is guilty of murder.
Heck, I'll even pay for the cost of cleaning the van afterwards.
That just about breaks my heart. That poor, poor father. Ugh.
She should be locked in the trunk of a black sedan, not in a van. My bad.
15 years, for killing a child, while intoxicated? How about 15 minutes, in an oven, while straight!
God bless that child!
More sad story about kid being killed by their own parent.
Rest in peace, little one. May God finally shine his light upon you. You will always be in my thoughts.
God Bless...
Police said the father was hysterical when he was questioned at Healdsburg General Hospital.
Liam was found in a car seat in the back of the four-door Toyota van and 4-year-old Jaden Paulsen was found lying naked on the floorboards near the front seat, Pinochi said.
Folks, this is Sonoma County, CA we're talkin' about here!
Forget those walking, screaming, breathing masses of worthless cells you all call "children" - this poor woman is obviously the victim in this case. She was understandably distraught after suffering through the ordeal of navigating through society, which heaped the burden of these cell masses on her, due to no fault of her own.
She needed the much-deserved rest she took. If we weren't polluting our environment so much that our globe was warming so drastically, it wouldn't have been so hot that her cell mass expired in her evil, gas-guzzling, Bush-loving, internal combustion death machine.
What this poor woman needs is therapeutic, holistic counseling in a retreat along the Santa Cruz County coast with an ocean view -- paid for by your tax dollars. Then and only then can we rid ourselves of the guilt we so rightly feel for her suffering.
Me? Sarcasm?
NOOOOOOO.......
Rest in peace, little angel.
People who roast their children to death in the car should be put in jail for a LONG TIME. This and drunk driving murders are totally blown off by the courts and not taken seriously.
Rope.
It's re-usable.
The "reporter" here is obviously setting this up for a product liability lawsuit. It was Toyota's fault.
I am so sick and tired of this. Irresponsible parents who care nothing for their kids. It's not right and it is happening more and more and more. When does it stop?
God bless the newest angel in Heaven. As for the mother? Well...God forgive me for my thoughts on her.
Do you really think that the father didn't know that his girlfriend/spouse/cohabitant (???) was an irresponsible drunk?
1. He worked at a winery. She was a wino. Coincidence?
2. She had started drinking wine (& driving) at 8:00 AM and left several empty wine bottles on the floor of the van. Do you think that was the first time this had happened?
3. This was the second DOCUMENTED time she had left the child locked alone in the hot van. He might be able to plead ignorance of the many other times when she has done this (undoubtedly, it's happened more than twice), but what about the first time the police were notified?
IMO, the father is almost equally culpable in this child's death.
15 years? How about life???? I have a 2 year old and just busted out in tears over this. Just to think of the suffering that child went thru.... Dear God.....
But the liver-tarians keep telling me drug use is a victimless crime!
Don't bother with cleaning it. I'm sure we'll have use for it again shortly.
I agree -- they need to start pressing murder charges against these parents. If Susan Smith had simply left her kids in the car to die in the sun, instead of drowning them in the car, she'd be a free woman today.
