CNN: Kerry Will File Legal Challenge to Swift Boat Veterans-Demands Immediate Suspension of Ads
NewsMax.com ^ | 8/20/04 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 08/20/2004 2:40:45 PM PDT by kattracks

CNN is reporting Friday afternoon that the Kerry campaign will file a complaint with the FEC.

Wolf Blitzer reported that the campaign will allege that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth are illegally coordinating their efforts with the Bush-Cheney campaign.

The complaint reportedly demands that the Swiftvets immediately suspend broadcasts of commericals attacking John Kerry's Vietnam War record and return any moneys raised in conjunction with the ad campaign.

The complaint is an extension of Sen. Kerry's charge on Thursday that the Swiftvets are a "front group" for the Bush Cheney campaign, alleging that the group has broken campaign laws by coordinating their efforts with the White House.

John O'Neill, author of the book "Unfit for Command," which details the charges described in the anti-Kerry commercials, said Friday that he had no connection with the White House, adding that his group wouldn't suspend the ads even if the White House asked them too.

"This isn't his fight," O'Neill told radio host Sean Hannity. "This is between the veterans who served in Vietnam and John Kerry."

So between the three of us that's $100. Like sockmonkey, I don't have a lot of expendable cash at the moment, but this, the truth, is important.

Kerry is so scary that the truth will be revealed and he will go to hell. I see he can dish it out ,but not take it. Kerry the truth might set him free if he were a bumblebee.

The little liberal piggies are squealing very loudly about this.

And we all know that, when liberal piggies squeal, it's because they're getting the absolute hell pounded out of them.

Hit them harder.

If Kerry is so #%&*! sure of his sterling record, he should sue the Swiftboat Vets for slander.

Yeah... right.

What a whining cry baby. He's not fit to command. Does Michael Moore ring any bells in the vacant lot that is his skull?

First rule of political advertising, you know your ad is effective when the opposition screams bloody murder that it is unfair - that means that they know that people are paying attention to it and asking embarrassing questions of their candidate. There is no defense against the truth coming from a credible source. Kerry can't even keep his lies straight.

"Democrats' Ads in Tandem Provoke G.O.P."
By JIM RUTENBERG
The New York Times
Section A; Column 1; National Desk; Pg. 10
March 27, 2004
...An analysis of advertising data provided by Republicans, Democrats and an independent group shows a striking synchronicity between the advertising campaigns of Mr. Kerry and Moveon.org and the Media Fund, which flatly deny any illegal consultations. They have been advertising in the same 17 swing states, in most of the same markets while almost uniformly ignoring others.

In mid-March, while Mr. Kerry advertised slightly more in the morning, the groups advertised slightly more at night. At other times of day, the two groups and the Kerry campaign together matched Mr. Bush's advertising nearly spot for spot, in a couple of cases exceeding it. That level of correlation has delighted Democrats, who acknowledge that the groups have gone a long way in helping Mr. Kerry to meet the advertising onslaught of Mr. Bush, whose campaign has raised far more money.

<snip>

...The 527 groups' significance has grown exponentially this election cycle because they are able to collect millions in unregulated, unlimited contributions from unions, corporations and wealthy individuals. The parties and candidates are now prohibited from that type of fund-raising under the new campaign finance law.

While the law does not affect the fund-raising practices of these groups, it prohibited them from coordinating their efforts with federal parties or candidates. Though they provided no definitive evidence, Republicans contend the groups are violating that provision with their advertising.

''It is coordinated contrary to the law,'' said Benjamin L. Ginsberg, a Republican lawyer representing the Republican National Committee and Mr. Bush's re-election campaign. ''It would appear to an unbiased observer that there's got to be coordination by the fact that they're in the same market, not in the same market. They split up the day in a particular way.''

For instance, Mr. Ginsberg said, it seemed suspicious to him that neither the groups, nor the Kerry campaign were running advertisements in Miami or Pensacola, Fla., in mid-March, while all of them were running spots in Little Rock, Ark., where, for at least one weeklong period earlier this month, they outspent Mr. Bush.

Mr. Ginsberg said he was especially suspicious of the Media Fund because one of its consultants, Jim Jordan, used to manage Mr. Kerry's presidential campaign.

<snip>

...independent media consultants said the purchases were impressive in their coherence.

''They are certainly operating almost as a unit,'' said Evan Tracey, chief operating officer of T.N.S.M.I./Campaign Media Analysis Group, which monitors political advertising. ''If you look at them in total, it's just dead-on buying. If you were to roll it up and call it the Kerry campaign, it is spot-on parity with what Bush is buying right now. They're being very efficient.''

Ken Goldstein, director of the Advertising Project of the University of Wisconsin, said: ''They are targeting with a high degree of correlation. There are very few, if any, markets where one group is up and the other group isn't.''

Kerry, DNC and MoveOn.org are connected by attorney Joseph Sandler who is general counsel for the DNC and represents MoveOn.org.

And this from a guy who had Michael Moore running around his convention. . . .

And given a prominent seat right next to Jimmy Carter. Kerry's hypocrisy is astounding.

"The Swiftvets can keep my money. In fact, they can look for more!"

Amen. I just sent them another contribution and bought their book, too. Traitors the likes Kerry, Fonda and the VVAW have never been forgotten by the honorable veterans that they trashed. Now, it's their turn to feel our wrath. Go Swift Vets!

"The New York Times on Friday reported that there is a "web of connections" between the Swift Boat group and the "Bush family, high-profile Texas political figures and President Bush (news - web sites)'s chief political aide, Karl Rove."

Yeah...because Kerry & Co. told them to report this. Not only are these allegations completely unfounded, they are shamelessly hypocritical!! Gee wiz...the biggest financial sponsor behind the Swifties is a Texas construction contractor who gave $250K. That's not chump change, unless you compare it with the MILLIONS given to shady 527 orgs like MoveOn, etc. who are doing the dirtywork for Mr. Kerry.

Of course, don't expect the unbiased, non-liberal media to point this out to the average viewer. And they wonder why they are hemmoraging viewers/readers and credibility every day.

But, if he isn't saying they're lying, then why pull the ads? This whole thing is as disjointed and convoluted as John Kerry's campaign. The wheels are coming off, folks. It's a beautiful thing.

You have to step out of the conservative preservative and think like a liberal to get this. (Yes, it IS a beautiful thing, however!)

Whether what the Swiftees say is true or not has nothing to do with the Kerry Kampaign censorship drive.

Kerry has said in the past that the War On Terror is largely a matter for the courts. That is how he is handling the Swiftboat Vets as well.

The Rats better pray to whatever that thing they call god if the Bush/Cheney team do link up with the Swift Vets For Truth. Have you ever heard of a Texas Barbecue? The Republican war room will serve these Rats as kabobs if they were ever to go on line with the Swift Vets.

Right now, they are letting those immune to the new campaign finance laws toy with them before the big kill.

From musicman at post 70:

"Would the Swift Vets ad be deemed "OK" if it was "tagged" on both ends (beginning & end) as a "commercial" to promote the sale of the book "Unfit for Command" ??

Do like mikey moore did with his movie commercial promo's, except push the sale of the book, thus taking the "527" out of it, and making it like bill & hill's books, richard clark's book, or any of the "too-many-to-list" commercially sold ANTI-BUSH books.

For an example,I have not heard of say, Ann Coulter's recent book being a "527" undercover Bush operative with ties to the White house hiding behind the "527" mantle.

...just this freeper's VERY humble opinion, and attempt to help the Swift Vets and BC04.....

Someone needs to fill me on on the "hugh" thing.

It's a FR malapropism, a take-off on a lot of other people who misspell HUGE as HUGH. Same category: SERIES for SERIOUS. If you keep running into other words consistently misspelled around here, just figure they're in the same category.

Also in the same boat is saying you need to go take a shower and will someone ping you if "this" or "that" story has legs -- someone wrote that on the breaking news thread after the first plane hit the first WTC building.
