Intelligence circles in S. Korea, U.S., and Japan, arrived at the conclusion that Ko Yong-hi, the wife of N. Korean dictator Kim Jong-il, has almost certainly died from her illness. They are keen to find out how her death could affect the personal life of Kim Jong-il and the (N. Korean) power structure. Some argue that her death would be a heavy psychological blow to Kim Jong-il. Kim Jong-il has been having a bad heart problem, but he still likes to drink. Ko Yong-hi had been instrumental in moderating his drinking habit.
Since early last year, N. Korean regime has been instigating the cult worship of Ko Yong-hi mainly in N. Korean military units, without referring to her by name, (i.e., using a symbolic reference.) This move was viewed as laying a groundwork for installing one of Ko's two sons (Kim Jong-chul and Kim Jong-un) as a successor (to Kim Jong-il.) Ko's death could disrupt this process of anointing a successor. There have been unconfirmed reports that Kim Jong-nam, born from Sung Hye-rim(dead) and Kim Jong-il, is groomed as the successor. Ko's death could endanger the status of Kim Jong-chul, and Jong-un.
Ko's death is noteworthy in light of the fact that he de-facto No.2 man of N. Korean regime, Jang Sung-thaek, the first vice director of (N. Korean) Worker's Party, has been under house arrest and undergoing ideological re-education for months. Jang is the husband of Kim Jong-il's younger sister, Kim Kyung-hee, whose marriage has been having troubles. Jang's eldest brother, Jang Sung-woo is the Director of Civil Defense at N. Korean Worker's Party, while the second elder brother, Jang Sung-gil, is the Commissar of 820th Armored Corps(whose task is defence of Pyongyang.) It appears that Kim Jong-il purged Jang Sung-thaek on account of power abuse and corruption to clear any stumbling blocks against installing Kim's successor.
Ko Yong-hi's sister, Ko Yong-sook, and her husband defected to U.S. from Switzerland in 1998, and now live under the protection of CIA. Ko Yong-hi underwent cancer operation 10 years ago. According to Kim Jong-il's former chef, Kenji Fugimoto, Kim Jong-il went into depression at the time. He threw outlandish parties to break out of his sense of loneliness. Kenji Fugimoto commented, "Kim Jong-il really loved Ko Yong-hi. I believe that she would be his last love." What will happen to Kim Jong-il's psyche if Ko Yong-hi is indeed gone? How does this shape the change of N. Korean policy toward S. Korea and other countries? These are the issues intelligence outfits are looking into now.
Ordinary N. Koreans are not aware of what goes on inside Kim Jong-il's family. They do not know that Kim Jong-il lives with Ko Yong-hi and she produced two sons, Kim Jong-chul and Kim Jong-un. They are state secrets. Consequently, even if Ko Yong-hi is dead, there would be no public announcement nor public funeral.

If she is really dead, Kim Jong-il's emotional stability could suffer. It is true that he feel incredibly isolated and lonely, hardly trusting anybody. Furthermore, lately, both China and U.S. are putting serious pressure on him to give up his WMD program. Then there was Ryongchon explosion, which could have been attempt on his life. It also blew up some valuable military cargo, judging from horrendous size of the explosion. The vaunted economic reform launched in July last year ended up causing price inflation while average income has remained flat. The regime's control on general population is slowly breaking in bottom-up fashion. He also cracks down defectors, erect wall along Sino-N. Korean border, and out to wipe out illegal cellphone use. However, he is more or less swimming against the tide. Now his succession plan and his emotional stability is go up in smoke due to Ko Yong-hi's death.
Could N. Korean crisis be heading for its resolution in near future?
Ping!
North Korea is an asylum. This stuff is just plain nuts.
She probably got tired of him threatening to nuke her and ran off.
"Kim Jong-il's emotional stability could suffer"
? Lol. You Joking ?
The whole thing is bizarre
interesting!
Ping
Radiation poisoning?
Were do we send the bouquet of flowers to Kim, with a little something else in there? (I won't say on this forum).
Then she's not his current wife. :)
Dead or alive, I don't see Kim Jong-il's wife as much of a relevant figure, except as the mother of his sons--and I do agree that any evelated status for her is part of laying the groundwork for their eventual succession to power. Regarding her "influence" on Kim Jong-il's personal habits, I'm not sure that she has been much of an influence on the "Dear Leader." Like most despots, the younger Kim does pretty much as he pleases. He still likes Hennessy cognac and Dunhill cigarettes, and will maintain those habits until he dies. Kim also a wandering eye, and reportedly entertains various mistresses and concubines at a multi-story "pleasure palace in Pyongyang...if his wife is dead, I do not expect Kim Jong-il to fly off the handle, or go off on a bender--any more than he does already.
I guess the chemotherapy using bark extract didn't do the trick.
She's not dead yet... she's merely sleeping! Pining for the fjords!
You ought to hang out a lot more on these various DPRK threads on FR. You have some interesting qualifications.
so, the illmatic may be back on the market.... ; )
As coroner
I must aver
I thoroughly examined her
And she's not only merely dead
She's really, most sincerely dead
Most desirable jon in NK?..Mortician.....cannabalism is probably rampant...she's suishi somewheres..
Let's send him a case of Jack Daniels!
Kim Jong-il really loved the allegedly-dead Ko-Jong-hi. Sister-in-law Ko Yong-sook defected to the U.S. where she and her husband are under the protection of the CIA. Two mysterious, unseen sons, Kim Jong-chul and Kim Jong-un hover unseen in the background because they are state secrets.
Other compelling characters in the cast of "General Insane Asylum"......oops, sorry....."As North Korea Turns" are KoKo, Pooh Bah, Nanki Poo, Cho-Cho-San, Pitti-Sing, Pish-Tush and Peep Bo.
Don't miss the next exciting episode of "All My Ku-Ku Children".......oops, sorry......"As North Korea Churns".
Leni
Everclear will do the job much faster, and more permanently. SO: The CIA bottles a case in Jack Daniels bottles, adds some caramel coloring and some bourbon flavoring, and Kim will think he has a bad batch of Jack, but still drink himself to death on the 180 proof.
"Poor Kim is dead poor Kim is dead..."
There are indeed many available women he can choose from. However, he used to be a bit out-of-control until Ko came along and settle him down. She was probably the one one he could trust. She talked Kim out of pondering suicide after his father, Kim Il-sung's death. Her death with his possibly most dangerous time in his life approaching could shake his mind badly. He could not be able to trust any new woman he can take.
His mother died early. This made him really feel isolated growing up, surrounded by Dad and his step-mother and their children. He has craving for such personal trustful confidente. This is his weak link, in my opinion.
