Max Cleland Turned Away From Bush Ranch

Posted on 08/25/2004 11:36:49 AM PDT by GulliverSwift

Former Georgia Senator Max Cleland, left, and former Green Beret Lt. Jim Rassmann, center, approach a Secret Service Agent, right, on station at the check point to the entrance of President Bush (news - web sites)'s ranch Wednesday Aug. 25, 2004 in Crawford, Texas. Cleland tried to deliver a letter protesting ads challenging John Kerry (news - web sites)'s Vietnam service to President Bush at his Texas ranch Wednesday, but the Secret Service stopped Cleland short of his goal. Not through Max Cleland, that much I know, I think.

This is yet again another example of how much Kerry uses people.

There is only 1 reason why Max Cleland was sent: photo op.

Despite how much I disagree with Max Cleland's politics and how the mass media's portrayal of how he, tragically, lost his limbs (making it believe that they were incurred during enemy fire), I feel bad for how he is being treated by Kerry and his operatives.

I would feel worse about it, but Cleland seems to be willingly towing the Kerry line. It's really pathetic.

What a cheap publicity whore.

Imagine how much more publicity Kerry could get if he were to IMMEDIATELY RELEASE ALL OF HIS RECORDS, his war journal, and his wife's tax returns.

He could also grab a few headlines by honestly answering some of the questions raised by the SwiftBoat Vets with anything other than "Vast Right Wing Conspiracy" nonsense.

Again, I have to disagree. Cleland has attacked Bush as a coward and a deserter in the past. This bum should not even get the time of day from Bush. His attacks are on par with the NAACP's attacks this yr.

Did anyone else pick up on the Freudian slip of the decade? Rassmuffin was talking about how he was in the water and he heard bullets whizzing overhead and that his version of events was "collaborated ... I mean corroborated" with the others who were there.

Video of this scene and sympathetic moaning will lead the MSM evening news at 6:30 pm today...they will omit the substance of the letters and not even bother to find out which side is telling the truth.

Yep. The minute I saw the pic above I had the very same thought.

Bush handled this situation perfectly according to this:

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=694&u=/ap/20040825/ap_on_el_pr/bush_cleland&printer=1

The SS agent is also a Vietnam Vet and has his own letter to give to Cleland explaing why he supports Bush. Cleland declined to take it and said he'd just send the letter throught the mail.

There are no adjectives to appropriately describe Cleland. All I can be thankful for is that he ain't my senator no more.

Once again, McCain's name is put out front on this and he is no where to be seen.

"Disgusting move by Kerry, a new low even for him."

I wonder if the media will focus on Kerry's exploition of handicapped vets for mere political gain, OR of his sending others to do his own groveling?

Nobody just shows up at the Presidents doorstep and demand service. Totally disrespectful.

First, Bush declines to visit a free screening of Fahrenheit 911 in the high school parking lot, and now this. What's the world coming to, when anyone with an axe to grind can't just show up at the President's personal residence and demand an audience?

I agree with you. I couldn't drop by the ranch uninvited and expect to get in, and I'm not Bush's enemy. These numnuts are!

That maybe true, but Americans will look at it in a different light I think. They would see Bush as a decent guy who invited his enemies into his own house, he would look like the bigger man.

Disgusting move by Kerry, a new low even for him.

Not even close. His all-time low was signing on with Hanoi Jane. Compaired to that, trotting out guys in wheelchairs for pure media propaganda is classy.
