Around midnight, someone posted too-close-to-nude pics of Shannen Doherty. JimRob himself nuked the thread, saying it contained material inappropriate for FR.

but let's face it, she has to have SOME talent or she wouldn't have been able to be as successful as she is.

Thanks, I was trying to find a polite way to handle P Marlow. You found just the right touch.

Everyone should lighten up and realize that this is a party...

There's something ironic to be said for people who think of themselves as forward thinking and ladies men who spent their Saturday night in front of a computer posting pics of babes. :)

I was wondering about that. I don't think it was one of mine...I made sure they were PG-13.

Ah, well, it probably would have gotten out of control sooner or later. Us horndawgs can get crazy with all that female flesh about.

Still, it brings back to mind that point I made on that thread...those opposing Spears' appearance at the convention don't seem to mind, for the most part, appearances by Bo Derek (who has made many softcore sexual movies, and appears nude at the drop of a hat), or Shannen Doherty (who also has posed nude and lives a life considerably wilder than Spears).

Do a Google image search on Spears...you'll find no nude photos, even with "safe search" off. Do the same with Derek or Doherty and you'll find pages of them.

It seems that spears is being singled out for some reason. I know L.N.'s reason...he figures she is a symbol of what's wrong with marriage because of her "quickie" Vegas romp.

This of couse ignores the fact that she's not a featured speaker on the issue of marriage and won't be. It also ignores prominant Republicans (Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh to name but two) whose marriage record is far more dismal. In a way, she's become a lighning rod, probably because she is young and cute, and is famous among young people.

Of course, this is exactly the reason she's been invited to perform. Whatever her pecadillos (which are less, in fact, than the respected GOP members I've listed), she would liven up an otherwise boring political convention. It's SUPPOSED to be fun, after all, and it's supposed to bring interest in the party to new as well as older voters. Sorry, but "Christian Rock" just does not have that kind of appeal to younger, up-and-coming voters. Furthermore, making the convention some kind of revival meeting would solidify the Dims' claims that the GOP is a bunch of religious theocrats.

There's an old saying...where the young women are, the young men go. Showing the GOP as a place which welcomes attractive, sexy women can only contrast with the unshaven, filthy harridans the Dims put up at their convention as well as those at the protests.

I understand the objections of the purists, but the benefits, IMHO, outweigh them. Making the GOP seem "cool" and "popular" with pretty girls won't hurt us a bit. Let the Dims have the screeching, PC feminazis.

The RNC is a party, and it's our business to make it a good party. Spears is welcome in my book, though I don't buy her CDs and wouldn't recognize her sons, I confess.

I think these kind of judgment calls should be made to people who are fairly open to new things and an inclusive party (and by party I mean literally a 'party' - a get-together of friendly folks for some fun). So to me, Britney is fine, though she is probably no role model.

But it's all relative. While I would give her the nod, I would be reluctant to give the stage to a half dozen porno stars if they happened to be very vocal GOP supporters. So it's a matter of taste, style, fun, and moderation.

The RNC isn't suited for the 'revival meeting,; as you mentioned - the decision as to who should go on in regards to entertainment shouldn't be made by folks who think that's the kind of party we should throw. Period.

Doesn't matter now anyway. The program for the convention is out...she's not on it.

The tut-tutters apparently won this one.
