He served one tour on the USS Gridley, which never saw action and spent much of its time in the Philippines and on the open Pacific thousands of miles from the action in Vietnam, even though it was technically in the Vietnam theater for a few weeks.

The second tour was the Swift boat tour, which was cut short by the three Purple Hearts.

He did not serve 2 duties, his service of the USS Gridley was training, and never saw combat, nor entered into Vietnam. He is such a liar.

I've been looking for this topic for the last couple days. He stood before (1st responders??) a couple days ago and spoke about the "Bush attack machine" (my words.)

He said he was in Vietnam for more than 4 months.

Did anyone do a fact check on that? Did he mean (e.g.) "4 months and a day?"

There were other statements that he made in that appearance that were questionable (but not questioned...) Can anyone help me with this (a previous post perhaps??)

He reported to the Gridley on June 8, 1967.

The Gridley left California for the West Pacific on February 9, 1968.

Between February 9 and May 27, 1968 the Gridley made stops in Wellington NZ, Subic Bay, and several weeks of carrier support near the Gulf of Tonkin.

On May 27 the Gridley set off for Long Beach, CA where it arrived June 6, 1968.

His second tour began days later, with Kerry doing Swift Boat training before reporting to Cam Ranh Bay on December 1, 1968. The next day was his first Swift patrol.
