I have begun to think that the media complicity

Douglas Brinkley turned in a disgraceful but very revealing performance on Hardball (Monday?) recently. When Gardner's name was brought up, Brinkly contemptuously dismissed him as a "Conservative from South Carolina".

Brinkley's credibility is suffering as much as Kerry's. What makes Gardner's statements so compelling is the fact that Gardner admits that he shot the boy in the sampan. Like Thurlow, Gardner willingly gives an account that makes him look worse that Kerry's accounts in the official reports in order to set the record straight on Kerry. That's very compelling.

The doc must have snorted, because Kerry left and came back later with paperwork to be signed by someone else (Jess Carreon? I can't remember the assistant medic's name.) Result? Recommendation for a Purple Heart. Granted.

I suggest you read Unfit for Command. Kerry never did get Dr. Letson or LCDR Hibbard to approve his Purple Heart. FYI: JC Carreon was the First Class Hospital Corpsman who worked for Dr. Letson and just signed the treatment sheet. After Kerry left Coastal Division 14 and went to Coastal Division 11, he was somehow able to get the PH approved on Feb 28th or almost three months later. No one has seen a casualty report, which is required or an after action report if there was hostile fire. ADM Schacte who was on the skimmer with Kerry during his training mission said today that no after action report was filed because there was no hostile fire.

Thank you for the clarifications. I was attempting to summarize Steve Gardner's comments as he spoke on the Rush Limbaugh show regarding Kerry's Purple Heart scam. My copy of Unfit arrived today, and I look forward to staying up late reading it.
