What I think is the height of hypocracy is when the two-faced Canadian artists come to the US to make their money, then go back to Canada and denounce everything American because it plays to that crowd, and then come back down for more money. They wouldn't dare spout their vile trash in the US because there goes thier money.

Who cares what she says. She is about as significant in the world as a grain of sand to a beach.

I think we pulled our weight in the cold war. We definitly got a little too soft, complacent and liberal lately, however since 9/11 that trend is slowly reversing, hastened I might add by this most recent idiotic commentary. Canadians are really not much different than Americans, battling the cultural divide between liberalism and conservativism and the Canucks on these threads are your friends and allies, not your adversaries.

"Canucks are not our Friends."

NOT TRUE!!!

I Guarantee that if the US were attacked, the Canadians would "be there" to Help us.

If "Canada" were attacked, the US would "Be There!!"

The Arithmatic is VERY SIMPLE!!

Screw you, dork.

I understand economics and trade policy just fine.

My comment was an off the cuff remark about how enjoyable it would be to retaliate against the Canadians.

Find some else to show off your "intelligence" to.

Gee, I'd love to help you out...
I have some great ideas to increase global warming, but they won't let me do it.

Umm...Steve...no offense, but I don't think you understand trade and economics AT ALL.

Firstly, until recently we already slapped almost 30% counterveiling duties on Canadian lumber. By this we increased the price of building a house by $3000+ to the average American.

Secondly, Canada is our biggest trading partner. BY FAR. We do almost half a trillion dollars with them per year. You would have to combine China and Mexico to get into the same ballpark.

Thirdly, one in three jobs in the US is linked to trade with Canada.

But ol' Steve goes out and teaches them.

Wow. Maybe you should be doing a bit more reading and a bit less teaching?

Can you imagine how fast the Soviet Union would have taken over those lazy, worthless, socialist, weasels in Canada during the Cold War?

It's becoming clear that a lot of the countries we were protecting from communism were not really on our side in the battle.

What part of my previous e-mail did you not understand when I said it was an off the cuff remark?

I do get it. I do understand economics.

Now go crawl back into your hole.

I used to like Canada ,Gordon Lightfoot was my favorite singer,

OH MY GAWD - and you have the nerve to talk about embarrassment.

How about "I love the US, Boston Pizza is my favourite restaurant."?

Yeah, the USSR would have amassed an invasion fleet around, let's say, Vladivostok. Then they would have crossed the Pacific in two weeks "sneaking up" on Canada. Then after taking Vancouver, they would have landed all their T-55s and headed for Ottawa, 3000 miles away. Across the Rockies (which offer 3 passes in BC, so steep that you could block them with a few tons of TNT), and the plains. Hardly any air support at the beginning because the USSR didn't have a real aircraft carrier (the Moskva held mainly helicopters), no airborne logistics because there is no friendly base within a few thousand miles. That's the same Russians that withdrew from (comparatively) tiny Afghanistan because they couldn't hold it. But, yeah, they'll take on the second-largest country in the world on the other side of the globe. No bases in between, no allied countries in between. But M007 goes in there and takes it en passant. I recommend you study the logistics of Napoleon in Russia, Hitler in Russia, and the USSR in Afghanistan a bit more closely and ask yourself why the superior power always failed. And while you're at it, have a look at NATO's Flexible Response doctrine and what that would have meant for Russia if they had opened a front on their Eastern flank.

Man, I hate you yappers that have never served in a logistics platoon.

Sorry, my dictionary doesn't define "off the cuff" as "completely idiotic".

But reading your posts I do understand that in your limited world "off the cuff" is equivalent to "asinine".

The story of the American little league hockey players being booed when the American national anthem played in Canada, comes to mind. That is not the action of the Canadian Government, that is the voice of the people.

Now, in all seriousness. If Canada was attacked, you are right, America would assist. For the simple fact that Canada is right on our border. That is a security threat to the USA and I assume that it is somewhat easier to get American troops to Canada as opposed to Afghanistan or Iraq. If America was attacked would Canada help out? Who knows? Looking at all the help the Canadians are giving us now, after 9-11, I would guess that Canada would not help out America at all.

Mike,

How about the Canadians that donated so much blood after 9/11 that the Red Cross had to finally reject it because they couldn't handle the flood?

How about the Canadians that housed and hosted all those Americans after US airspace was shut down and we couldn't get home (I was one of them)?

How about the thousands of Canadians that rallied with Stars & Stripes in Ottawa to show their solidarity with their neighbour after they got embarrassed by a few individual loudmouth leftists?

How about the Canadians helping out in Afghanistan? Our troops speak very highly of the Canadians.

No, I think we could definitely count on on our neighbours to the north.

OK dork, I'll do this one more time.

Several months ago, an Irish politician made an anti-American comment and I suggested a large tariff on Bushmills whiskey.

It got a good laugh out of several Freepers who said that would be too much for them to handle.

Maybe I should have said Labatts or Moosehead instead of timber.

Then maybe you'd have understood...or maybe not.

Do you get it now? Then STFU!

You may be right, and I do not dispute your points. But, I just don't see it. This may be a case of a few bad apples, but I see Canada and the USA as having differences in attitudes.
