I read the original interview where he made that comment. I took it in exactly the context he's saying it now. Sounds like the obvious headlines got people pissed off and they didn't bother to read the full text.

Why in the hell did he have to clarify anything? He said it quite clearly and explicilty that it was treason against rock n roll! Every quote I heard or read had it right the first time. Alice is a smart guy, and this is what happens when an intelligent creative insightful comment is churned through the dumb-down media.

I read the original story, and I understood the context...Alice needn't issue a clarification, imho.

Cooper said he had clearly said in the interview rock stars doing concerts for presidential candidates were guilty of "treason against rock and roll."

I think the punishment for this crime would be getting stoned....

When I read the original comments from Cooper earlier in the week, I noticed that he clearly said "treason against rock and roll". Obviously, some illiterate liberal pantload struggled through a sentence or two and found something to holler about before finishing the story.

That makes sense. I understood what he meant the first time.

Alice has class. He is a conservative Republican and isn't afraid to say so. He also golfs with Rush Limbaugh from what I hear.

However, he doesn't take himself too seriously and doesn't use his fame to push a political agenda.

However, the man is a hundred times more articulate and intelligent than Springsteen or John "Communist" Mellencamp, or the other has-beens.

Rock and Roll PING! email Weegee to get on/off this list (or grab it yourself to PING the rest)

Cooper said he had clearly said in the interview rock stars doing concerts for presidential candidates were guilty of "treason against rock and roll."

The status quo doesn't like it when you say that someone is co-opting rock and roll to push an agenda. Then again there is great symbolism in the fact that the "Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame" inductions are more a tribute to album sales than genuine rockers (look who is there, who has been skipped, and the fact that the "band's existence" is clocked by when they finally got a major label album out).

This just in: Acid Heads to vote for Bush.

Actually I did a google on "Alice Cooper drugs" and learned that Cooper is now an outspoken Christian. I'm glad for him.
