He was drunk and fooling around when he picked up the grenade. This is why no purple heart.
What is GA Jimmy saying about all this?
It is ironic that Kerry sends a man with multiple limbs missing who has no purple heart to deliver a letter to Bush, when Kerry is athletic, able and has THREE purple hearts.
It has not been proven that he was drunk. The grenade however was not from the enemy as there was no combat. that's why no PH
Correct.
God, I get sick of sticking up for Cleland's military record, but again, I am forced to.
He was NOT DRUNK. He WAS planning on going out for a drink, but ended up not doing so because he got his legs blown off. Also, another soldier dropped the granade, after having flattoned the pin so it would come out easier. Cleland picked it up so a copter wouldn't land on it and set it off, not knowing the pin had fallen out.
If you feel as if you must persist at ridiculing him on how he got his injuries instead of his ridicule worthy public service record and shameless self serving whining since his defeat, then I challenge you to give me ONE PIECE OF PROOF that your version of the story is right and mine is wrong.
This isn't hard. Max Cleland Military Record = Good and praiseworthy. Max Cleland's Senate record and whining after defeat = Bad and pathetic respectively.
I thought a helicopter tire blew while he was working on it--am I thinking of someone else?
He was not drunk. He was on his way to have some beer but he hadn't had anything to drink yet. He also wasn't 'fooling around'. He saw a grenade that he, or someone with him, had dropped on the ground. He didn't know that it was about to explode.
It was a tragic accident but it was neither the result of his being drunk nor fooling around.
Are you sure about that hershey? It's a terrible thing to happen to anyone, in battle, in a car accident, or accidently. Do you have proof he was inebriated when he picked up the grenade?
