I find it amazing that all the eyewitnesses on the ground who reported seeing a small explosion by the right wing of the plane were never heard from again. That is because if you read the eyewitnesses statements, you get something like this.
- The left engine was on fire
- The right engine was on fire
- Both engines were on fire
- Neither engine was on fire
- Both engines were on fire
- The left engine fell off
- The right engine fell off
- Both engines fell off
- Neither engine fell off
- The tail was on fire
- The tail was not on fire
- The engines stopped
- The engines were running
- The aircraft broke up in flight
- The aircraft crashed intact
- There was an explosion
- There was not an explosion
