Driver's Licenses for Illegal Aliens Bill PASSES Again (California State Senate)
The John and Ken Show (KFI 64.0 am, Los Angeles) | truthkeeper

Posted on 08/27/2004 5:34:34 PM PDT by truthkeeper

Well guys, "One Bill Gil" Cedillo snuck this monstrosity in as an attachment to some bill the state senate just HAD to pass. (The official story, anyway.) John and Ken just announced that it passed 21 - 14 moments ago, despite an impassioned, intelligent plea against it by Tom McClintock. The bill now moves on the entire assembly, where it is also expected to pass.

So it looks like Arnold will have a bill to either sign or veto after all.

Once more into the breach.

Correct, this is not an urgency measure. Even if Arnold were to lose his mind and sign it, there would be plenty of time to put it on hold with a referendum.

"If Arnold does not veto this, a California license can and will be considered useless as identification. "

... and don't forget the other States that already allow them to get licenses... North Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Utah and Texas

It will be interesting to see if other states start refusing to honor the privilidges of a California Driver's License after this.

Doesn't Arnold have the line item veto power? I thought we did in California? Please help me with info here. If so, cannot Arnold line out all the driver's license portions?

How soon would Arnold have to sign or veto? I don't think we'll see a veto right before he goes to speak at the convention. The GOP bosses would freak out.

Actually there are about 14 states that have legalized illegals to drive on our roads.

If our licenses aren't anygood for ID purposes if this passes, we'll be forced to carry our passports everywhere to prove who we really are, just like if we were strangers in our own country. Illegals are like leeches, draining the blood out of us.

Dan'll have the definitive answer, but Arnold has time. Off the top of my head, I think it's September 30. I don't expect any sudden moves.

Governor Schwarzennegger's office just sent this short memo to Capitol Staff and Press:

Governor Schwarzenegger devoted significant time and effort to working towards a viable piece of legislation with Senator Cedillo and has been clear about his public safety concerns ever since they began talking last December.

Issuing official identification such as a drivers' license to undocumented immigrants in this post-9/11 era is a very serious public policy and national security issue. The Governor has consistently been adamant that certain security standards would have to be met for the legislation to be viable.

This legislation does not contain provisions that would satisfy the national security concerns the Governor expressed. The Governor was very clear that he would veto any legislation that did not address those issues.

Sent by Schwarzenegger Deputy Communications Director, Katherine McClane at 7:00 pm tonight

You mean there are 14 States that allow illegals to drive on California roads ? ( got Link ? )

Don't take me wrong, I don't think illegals shoul'd be able to get licenses, marked with a big red "I" or not, just that people seem to freak over this latest thing in California and don't even realize they could just go to Tennessee and get one..

15 states license illegals to drive

Immigration-reform group calls for federal government to step in

Amid the outrage over California Gov. Gray Davis' decision to sign legislation allowing illegal aliens to obtain driver's licenses comes the stunning revelation by immigration experts that the Golden State is neither unique nor alone: 14 other states also allow illegal aliens to drive legally on their highways.

Alaska, Connecticut, Idaho, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, Washington and West Virginia

"Geez doesn't it mean anything to be a citizen? 75%+ want these illegals out of here!!!"

Not anymore it doesn't. Congress, state government, and the courts do what they want no matter what the will of the people is. They are secure in their jobs because people just won't vote all the incumbents out. It has to happen if we want to get this country back on track as a republic where the power truly lies with the people. The people need to send a strong message to goverment that reminds them of who is really in charge by sending these arrogant career politicians packing.

What about a statewide referendum banning drivers licenses for illegal aliens?

You mean something like this?

Save Our License
“The Save Our License Initiative contains three main provisions,” he added. “First, the government will not provide any benefits not mandated by federal law. Second, the government will defend this law against any and all legal challenges. Third, individual citizens will be granted the power to sue to compel compliance with the law.”

A hurried effort, relying on volunteers only, failed to gather enough signatures this past Spring. This is a renewed effort which will be better funded and utilize both volunteers as well as paid signature gatherers. It has been presented to the Secretary of State and should pass muster by the end of September. Distribution and signature collecting can begin at that time. Click the link and sign up to gather a few signatures.
