A lot of boaters carry guns, even (registered) machine guns. This may be nothing out of the ordinary.

I want some more info on this before I freak out.

Most reporters can't tell a bb gun from a machine gun.

Don't panic, it looks harmless. The coast guard jumped on a boat and seized this guy' weapons. Typical goon behavior for NY.

does new york allow that? i would assume being as liberal as it is that they would have strict laws.

Silly as it may sound - you need firepower while you are out on the water. Ask Geraldo.

" he was carrying a 12-guage shotgun, a .30 caliber rifle and an AK-47"

Probably a Journalist taking liberties calling the AK a Machine Gun.

Gee, what an arsenal. I feel safer knowing this threat has been removed from society.

LOL! Probably just protecting himself while on the water. It makes complete sense to have a nice collection with you.

Coast Guard = "goons"?

Look, they were probably ordered to check vessels in the harbor. Don't call them goons. Or if you do, please don't call the Coast Guard next time you and your boat are in trouble. Those "goons" save a lot of lives.

depending on where you sail, pirating is still a very real threat that some people think doesn't exist anymore.

There are some very dangerous waters in the world, outside of U.S. control. Boats and ships have been armed for self-protection since time immemorial.
