GOP platform pushes amnesty
NJ.com ^ | 8/29/04 | Paul Mulshine

If there are any deluded souls out there who still believe George W. Bush is a conservative, I invite them to examine the 2004 Republican Party platform on the issue of amnesty for illegal immigrants.

Bush is for it. That makes him a liberal. Worse, he proclaims that the amnesty is not an amnesty. So he is not only a liberal, but a liar as well.

You forgot Dubya's backside:

The shredding of the 1st Amendment (standing by idly as CFR was enacted)

Surrendering the U.S.'s sovereign border to illegal hordes

Failed to fire ALL of Bubba Clinton's judicial hold outs

GROWING the government in leaps and bounds and leaning heavily towards socialism

Yeah, all this ought to make you ADORE Dubya Bush.

Me? I'll hold my nose and vote for the guy.

Well then i guess we can't gripe at Kerry either if he gets elected. Dang

There will be plenty of other stuff to gripe about with Kerry.

Mmmm...

Why don't you bitch about the people who actually WROTE AND PASSED the law?

The Congress of the United States is "The People", and they penned the law; it is their constitutional duty to do so.

They make laws, and the Executive enforces them.

Kerry would do the same, so i would suggest you hedge your vote on other issues like, partial birth abortion, gay marriage, "under god" the in the pledge, and the general strength of our military

The simplest solution to the illegal alien problem is to:

(1) Cease any property belonging to a landlord that rents to an illegal alien.

(2) Fine any employer that hires an illegal $1 million per worker.

(2) Fine any hospital that treats an illegal alien $1 million per patient.

(3) Fine any school that educates an illegal child $1 million per student.

The problem would solve itself nearly overnight as the flow of people coming into a country where they could find no place to live, no place to work, no place to get medical care, and no place to educate their kids would come to a dead stop.

In fact, they would deport themselves.

I didn't take him to think that at all.

So, you came up with four hyperbolic reasons to not like Bush to counter that list?

LOL!!

Tell me, who do YOU support who will be better?

Yes, I hold them in low esteem as well, but, Bush actually signed the law, therefore he is the most to blame.

He's never heard of a Veto, apparently.

The buck stops at the Presidents desk. He has final say over which laws pass, unless his vetoes are overriden, and he's never placed Congress in a position to override him, because his veto pen has been stuck up his nose or something...

The buck makes a stop at the President's desk, but Congress has the final word.

Why would FR at large be interested in a local race and why would I be trying to divert campaign funds from their local races? Especially when we already have plenty of backing here?

Why would "FR at Large" be interested in endless threads you guys present dedicated to the specific PROBLEMS of Cochise County?

What kind of "backing" do you have for Graf? Money raised, spent, in the bank? What do you consider "plenty" unseeding a senior House GOP leader? Numbers please. I want to know how serious you are.

"He [Dubya] won't seal them because it's not possible to seal borders."

Only because in your mind and Dubya's mind political expediency supercedes real patriotism.

The borders CAN be buttoned up. But that means an actual plan must be drawn, resources must be utilized and the Latino vote risked.

However, Dubya Bush and the RINOs have decided power is far more important than principle.

Yes, and?

The President is hardly supposed to be a rubber stamp for Congress.

A simple veto would have relegated CFR to the trash heap.

But of course, the Media and the Left would have raised hell, and we can't have that happening.

Please give me a President who doesn't act based on what the Media or his opponents may say or do reactively.

"The problem would solve itself nearly overnight..."

That's the sort of answer that a student would give to a businessman about running his company in the real world, all from the comforts of her dorm room.

There is no simple solution. There are over 8 million illegals. Over half of those illegals have documentation that can fool some of the best forgery experts.

Arresting 8 million illegals, or their employers, or even levying fines, would DWARF what our current judicial could handle (2 million in jail, several hundred thousand brought to trial each year).

Not to demagogue, but rather to point out *scope*, consider that the last mass round up of undesirables and those who harbored and employed them was in Europe between 1937 and 1945...an effort that tied down armies, had dedicated trains, and numerous concentration camps for some 6 million people.

Scope: 6 million.

Illegals in America today: over 8 million.

In Europe in the last century, the 6 million undesirables were already *registered* with the government. None of them were anonymous.

In America today, none of the 8 million + illegals are registered with the government. They are anonymous. They are off the grid.

Every LEO will tell you that it takes vastly more resources to track down anonymous fugitives compared to those whose idenities are known.

So there is no simple solution. Stop kidding yourself.

Beyond distortions, they are really working against the stated goals of the forum, much as those calumniators do against President Bush when they attack a valid religion.

They have no final word on a bill unless they have a willing 2/3rd's majority to override a veto, which they did not for CFR.

No one forced Bush to sign the Abomination.

We could seal the border if we wanted to, but apparently it's going to take a smuggled WMD exploding in one of our liberal cities to make that happen.

"Please give me a President who doesn't act based on what the Media or his opponents may say or do reactively."

You'll get such a President just as soon as you can deliver a voting majority so large that media bias no longer sways elections.

Until then, it's simply unreasonable to expect a President to be the most extreme right or left wing persona possible.

America is far too centrist for such extremism. 35% of Americans are left-of-center Democrats. 34% of Americans are right-of-center Republicans. Most of the rest of that remaining 31% are sitting on the center line.

Our politics reflects that mix, along with the news media's bias.
