Listening to the Jay Severin Show.

Hannity is on, and just said that they have found film of Kerry burning down huts in Vietnam. They haven't got permission from the Cavett show yet, but he sounded as if they believed they would have it by next week for the Hannity and Colmes show.

Well, I was confused. I thought it was par for the course. 'Course, I was a little leftist myself back in those days (but in my defense I was a conservative before I was a leftist!--they tricked me!--before I eventually reverted back to conservatism...Note this means I'm not a neocon!).

Even then I couldn't understand why anyone would make a big deal out of it. It was common knowledge. Diem instituted the policy way back before we ever got involved. We just carried on with it. There were relocation camps, so what? That was my attitude then. After villagers -- whom we suspected of supporting North Vietnamese forces -- were relocated, we destroyed the huts, the tunnels, the crops, etc., everything, to keep that stuff out of Viet Cong hands. It was a legitimate strategy, imo.

However, people WERE NOT slaughtered wholesale like Kerry implied; i.e., it WAS NOT DONE IN THE MANNER OF GHENGIS KHAN. The Mongol hordes killed everyone and everything if they couldn't take it with them.

I knew we weren't doing ANYTHING in the manner of Ghengis Khan, no matter how much leftist propaganda I had soaked up. In fact, Kerry's Senate testimony definitely played a role in getting me back on the right track (though it took forever). I KNEW he was lying. Those were gut-wrenching times, let me tell 'ya. (Though I think it might be worse today.)

Thanks much for this explanation. Sounds like even back then Kerry was shifting positions and had grandiose visions for the future.

The problem with this that is that in it Kerry has already inoculated himself against criticism by his apparent words at the end of the tape when he speaks that he was enlightened and "is explaining why vets coming back were against the war and how no one was listening to them". That means, unfortunately, his appearance there can be spun in a positive way in the minds of the DNC and MSM.

To be fair, he probably thought they were Branch Davidians.

No, it took less time to Burn Down the Branch Davidians than John Kery spent in Vietnam...but not by much!!

Why was a NAVAL OFFICR, who should have been working his duty on the Swift boats in the river, doing hos job running the boat, his crew, and his orders, be out in the bush burning villages?

Forget the camera stunts: That's obvious that he was planning a Bill Clinton JFK photo-op (as well as a General MacArthur re-shoot of landing at Philippines!)

A boat CO who is responsible for pacifying and helping Vietnamese citizens (OIC actually, but who cares) has no business in the jungle off his boat burning villages!

Thanks for the ping to this, Tonk. I am still smiling over Zell Miller's speech tonight! Kerry is toast. This film is going to be one more piece of insurance.

Did you hear Capt. Marks on WPTF today? He said there are rumors that the Swift Vets have an October suprise planned. He is apparently close with some of them.

He said he wasn't sure but felt fairly strongly that they have obtained Kerry's "missing" military records and would make them public. It just keeps getting better and better : )
