September 02, 2004, 10:27 a.m. Laura and Her Killer Bushie Playwright Tony Kushners Iraq Bush-family fantasy.
New York, N.Y. "No one wanted you dead! Oh God no, I mean God no, what sort of animal would want that? No, it's a terrible sin and I'm sure we'll all have to pay for it, me and Bushie and I call him Bushie, my husband."
The actress Holly Hunter, wearing jeans, an anti-Bush t-shirt, and speaking with a broad southern accent, was playing First Lady Laura Bush in Only We Who Guard the Mystery Shall Be Unhappy, a "work in progress" by the playwright Tony Kushner. The reading of the unfinished play, at the New York Theatre Workshop, a 250-seat room in the East Village, was billed as part of the creative community's response to the Republican National Convention. So on Wednesday night, as Vice President Dick Cheney was preparing to address the convention, the theater was packed organizers had to turn people away as Hunter, playing Mrs. Bush, addressed a group of Iraqi children.
At the beginning of the play, as she is preparing to read to the children, Mrs. Bush notices they are all wearing pajamas. Why is that?, she wants to know.
"I was about to explain," says an angel, played by the Sex in the City actress Cynthia Nixon. "In Paradise, all dead children wear pajamas."
It turns out the First Lady is in fact speaking to the ghosts of Iraqi children killed by American bombs and missiles. "You are the first Iraqi children I've met and you look real sweet in your PJs," she says. "And I'm sorry you're dead, but all children love books...How did you die, darling?"

In the context of Zell Miller's fine speech, these left-wing hate mongers are exactly what he is talking about.

BARF ALERT
Holly Hunter just joined the Banned.
Leftist psychodrama. It's amazing to me that the left can support itself, financially, by playing out their delusional neuroses on stage.
Just proves how intimidated these people are by true LEADERSHIP. Kerry cannot compare.
You're close. The left is brain damaged. They're delusional. I'm mean, they are truly sick, and have lost whatever grip they had on reality.
Why?
First, no one who will attend any of these events will ever vote for George W. Bush in the first place, so they are preaching entirely to the converted.
Second, the more time these people spend rehearsing and performing, the less time they will ever spend getting the vote out from undecideds, using their personality to connect with unmotivated voters, etc.
Third, they are performing for NY voters - spending all their time and energy in a non-battleground state.
Notice how no one hears from Ben Affleck anymore, BTW?
This is exactly the type of thing that can be expected from the likes of the "Hollywood" scum. They have no clue. And the common sense of everyday decent people will ignore these self-indulgent "actors".
Dear God...Tony Kushner is pure unadulterated slime, not to mention anyone that played a part in this piece of trash.
Having birthed several very right-brained children and being married to a right-brained man, I've gotta ask, what the heck does being right-brained have to do with the insanity of the left???????????
And all 250,000 of those left-wing, hate-mongering marchers who have been plaguing NYC all week with their stupid signs have had zero effect on our Convention. I take great pleasure in that.
This is really sick.
What a bunch of self-important, bloviating, adolescent, waterheads!
Holly Hunter.....didn't she used to be mediocre?
You make good points.
I used to like, as actors, people like Ed Asner, Paul Newman, Alec Baldwin, even Jane Fonda. Now, I won't spend 5 cents on their movies. Holly, Broadcast News, Hunter has just been added to the list.

Not ANOTHER Chill Wind issuing from the mouth of an idiot leftist playwright!

It must be really nice to be able to get fame and millions without being required to think.
Holly Hunter and Cynthia Nixon are has-beens, anyway. "Raising Arizona" was Holly Hunter's peak, and that was long ago. And Cynthia Nixon never was all that interesting. They won't be missed.
