BUSH'S BID FOR HISTORY
New York Post ^ | 9/03/04 | DICK MORRIS

September 3, 2004 --

UNTIL President Bush began his speech on the final night of the Republican National Convention, the goal of the United States' anti-terror policy was perceived by a largely supportive public as a bid to assure safety. With a rhetorical flourish worthy of the great speeches of all time, George W. Bush has transformed the war into a battle for liberty.

In a speech that was at once eloquent and substantive, sensitive and dynamic, profound and familiar, Bush has risen to a level few presidents have ever reached.

Sometimes a strategist just has to sit back and gasp. Occasionally, a seasoned political observer needs to realize that he has seen something extraordinary. Tonight, Bush made me feel like that.

The speech satisfied every single political need. He contrasted with Kerry without appearing negative. He demonstrated emotion without pandering. He rose to a level of substantive specificity without becoming wonkish.

Dick Morris always puts me in the hands-on-head-no-tricks mode. It's just hard to know what he's going to come up with next.

I voted for Gore in 2000, as a true child of the Clinton era. But I decided to vote for Bush on Sept. 12, 2001 when I saw how he handled the threat we face. I used to back Bush because he offered safety; now I support him because he summons us all to an ideal. Before he spoke, supporting Bush was a duty one owed to the fallen. Now, it is an honor.

Strong words of praise from Dick Morris.

When Bush wins this November, and the Republicans win a real majority in the House and Senate... and we get real judges into the courts, then we won't see a Democrat in the Oval Office for the next 25 years.

Bush's vision for America appeals to the moderate middle and conservatives. It totally destroys any chance the liberals will gain and hold any power.

It totally destroys any chance the liberals will gain and hold any power.

It also does that by destroying Reaganism.

Big government conservatism is now in.

HSA's and pre funded pensions will LOWER the cost of government in the long run (10~20 years)

His style reminded one of FDR's Fireside Chats, explaining policies in a philosophical context. He pulled his litany of programs together, labeling them an "ownership society." -Dick Morris

I've been waiting for the ownership society to be rolled out. The campaign seems to be playing it low-key for now. Number one, because WOT/Iraq is front and center. But number two, making it carry too much of the message load for the campaign would be a mistake.

over half of america owns mutual funds ( equity). joe 6 CARES what the stock market does.

He will now care even more with HSAs and pre-funded social security which will be much more likely invested in equities instead of treasuries( right now you are FORCED to buy ten treasuries with your 15%+ medicare and social security 'contributions')

Bush radiates the sort of classic American optimism about the future that is very appealing. The Dems can only counter with pessimistic nay-saying and name calling. They are doomed.

Big government conservatism is now in.

You have two choices... Big government founded on conservative values, or big government founded on liberal values.

That's the new century... But if we can maintain control of the government, we can eventually start moving toward smaller government. The key is keeping our elected officials from becoming the patsies of special interests. If that means replacing an incumbent who has been in Congress for too long, we'll do it. But if we let the liberals take control we lost control of government, destiny, and any hope that we'll be able to decrease the size of government on terms we can live.

"Before he spoke, supporting Bush was a duty one owed to the fallen. Now, it is an honor."

Prominent Democrats such as Senator Zell Miller, former NYC Mayor Ed Koch, Chicago Mayor Daley, and even Dick Morris are supporting President Bush and/or bashing Senator Kerry.

Even Democratic pollster Zogby is showing that President Bush is pulling 15% of his support from Democrats, as well as that the "undecideds" are breaking evenly for Bush & Kerry rather than in the traditional 3:1 ratio for the challenger.

...And all of this unity is in direct defiance of the liberal media that deliberately misquotes the President (Dowd of the NY Times), runs hit pieces against him but not against his opponent (60 Minutes running Barnes' long-disproven lies versus refusing to air Swift Boat Vets), as well as slanting every story and every editorial in the most liberal light that they think they can get away with.

This is the liberal media's last hurrah. They won't get away with this much bias ever again.

I agree, and then there's the fact that we all played cowboy and indians when were kids... And Bush is a cowboy... pure and simple.

I'm a minority.. and if people don't mistake me for hispanic, they think I'm native american... but I always wanted to be the cowboy...

I love my President and to me it has always been a high honor and duty to support him. I'm glad that Dick Morris has realized this, very high praise from him.

With a rhetorical flourish worthy of the great speeches of all time, George W. Bush has transformed the war into a battle for liberty.

Rather, it isn't that he transformed it but he clarified it for those still confused.

G.W. greatest gift to America thus far, imho, is that he has defined who we are and our purpose for existance. We lost sight of this knowledge somewhere along the line. It made us weak. We have been strengtened with a resolve born of an expanding knowledge of our heritage and intended purpose in this world.

G.W. has been the one teaching many of us, including myself, what it means to be an "American" and I am indepted to him.

You can be anything you want in America! I tell my wife, who's Korean, that now that we live in Montana, she can be a cowgirl, but she doesn't quite believe me yet.
