(plus I like watching Mark Shields flounder) What did you make of his reaction after Zell Miller's speech? I thought it was the only time I've seen Mark Shields genuinely angry -- he looked pissed.
To: RetroSexual
The poll was taken before Bush's speech. I think people were watching the speech to confirm their decision rather than to make it.
The poll is really the avalanche created by the SwiftVet snowball.

You are correct. PBS and C-SPAN are not included in Nielsen ratings, because they do not have ads. The networks have to pay Nielsen to rate then, and they do so so that they can set advertisement rates. No ads, no Nielsens. PBS does, however, participate in other ratings.
I do not know why Fox Network is not listed, but it was *NOT* the same programming as Fox News.

I was at a PW meeting during Zell's speech and I missed Mark's reaction, but I can imagine.
He was hilarious last night after the POTUS speech. First claiming that there was no domestic policy, then after being shown incorrect, stating that he would be surprised if Bush followed through with any of it.
Funniest thing was he all but conceded that Bush would have a second term.

7.3 Million is not a cable-TV record. The VMAs on MTV score much higher (11M this year). I believe ESPN's Sunday Night Football also must score higher (being the only football game on at the time), but that is only a presumption. NOt sure about how The Sopranos.

I swithced to C Span during the speech to disable the Fox crawl line. I do the same thing. I find myself reading the crawl and I drift off from the speech.

So what you're really saying is no one watches these conventions anymore. Right?

(plus I like watching Mark Shields flounder)I just wish they would get a "real" conservative, not one that works for the NY Slimes, he's tainted, Brooks, that is.

I don't like Brooks much, quick to slam the POTUS. Often the "debate" period of News Hours sounds like a echo chamber.
But take heart in this...... Brooks, no friend of Bush, was excited about and defended Bush's speech.

yea I stick with Cspan generally. The only thing I miss is that I do like when the other channels interview the high profile speakers right afterwards - if only there was a way see the interview without watching the channel. lol

Don't forget that the President's speech was also competing against 10 NFL games(final preseason games) and eleven baseball games in the pennant race.

How many major cities with cable don't carry Fox News?
I went to Dish four years ago this spring because our cable people refused to even discuss it.
Finally Comcast the current cable monoply gave up and now includes Fox News with its cable.
In the meantime they lost thousands of customers like us who went to Dish or Direct Tv.

I do not know why Fox Network is not listed, but it was *NOT* the same programming as Fox News. The Fox Broadcasting Company goes off the air at 10:00 p.m. Eastern, while the Alphabet Nets stay on until 11:00. All the Alphabets ran their convention coverage in the 10:00 - 11:00 hour, and Fox Broadcasting ran no convention coverage at all.

I don't see ratings for C-SPAN, but I know a lot of people watched the convention coverage on that channel.
