When my oldest was in school, there was a saying:
Do the right thing.
I suggest it be the theme of the universe.

We need to kill the terrorists.

Solana is an a**hole. One of the major excuse makers for "Palestinian" terror.
It's the likes of this jackass that have nutured and encouraged the Islamic butchers.
Solana can go rot in hell.

"We (Europeans) believe the problem of terrorism must be resolved,,, by concentrating on its causes,"
Is it possible that one of the causes of terrorism is that terroristic governments have not yet been destroyed, as the Nazis and Imperialistic Japanese regimes were?

This article is absolutely right ... we need to address the causes of terrorism.
Islamofascism is the cause of terrorism.
Islamic extremists are the perpetrators of terrorism.
Both need to be wiped from the face of the earth.

The EU wants Moscow's explanation of the tragedy? Are they crazy? The explanation is that terrorists held children and adults hostage and killed a few hundred of them. What about mass murder does the EU not understand? The EU's 'I know nothing' stance is getting really old.

I'm thinking your "oldest" is about 50 by now. It's been nearly that long since right was differentiated from wrong.

Okay, problem solved.

Do the right thing has different meanings to different cultures. I'm not sure I want some cultures to do what they consider the right thing.

Solana appears to be asking the Coalition of the Willing
to drop nuclear weapons on him and the rest of the EU.

I'm sure we'll get touchy, feely. These poor, oppressed Muslims are only killing us because they can't get jobs to support their families.
Blush has it right. The cause is evil and evil grows under tyranny. Maybe Russia will join us now but the EU babies won't bother until the thugs attack them. Then they will be like SKerry, cry because everyone is picking on them.

EU's Solana says causes of terrorism need tackling I say the causes of Euroweenie arrogance need tackling, starting with Solana.
"We (Europeans) believe the problem of terrorism must be resolved not only by dealing with its effects but also by concentrating on its causes," Solana told the Corriere della Sera.
We (Americans) believe this as well, if by "concentrating on its causes" you mean "eliminating its base". But I don't think you do. So I'll settle for addressing the problem of the terrorist's main facilitators, namely the EU.

"We (Europeans) believe the problem of terrorism must be resolved not only by dealing with its effects but also by concentrating on its causes,"
Then they need to concentrate on the religion of peace.

Yes there are old issues the Arabs have with the west...namely with the Europeans.
After the Arabs fought as the Allies of the Europeans to push the Turks out of the Middle East, the Europeans betrayed them by dividing up the entire Arab world for themselves. From Morocco to Iraq and Somalia, every single Arab nation came under European control:
France - Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Lebanon & Syria
Italy - Libya, Ethiopia & Somalia.
Spain - Spanish Morocco.
Britain - Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Iraq (Including what is now Kuwait), Oman & Aden (What is now Yemen.)
There were no American colonies there...just European. So he is right...and needs to get his European buddies to start apologizing.

The EU's leaders upset as they were CAUSING more terrorism throughout the 90's
and to the present day by fuding one of the EU's greatest serial-mass-murderers.
The EU has funded and thus CAUSED hundreds of thousand of murders and causalties.
To: Pikamax
Of course, the EU condemns regime change as a method of "tackling" terrorism.
Actually, Mr Solana, I suspect the word "tackling" is a bit too violent and may offend your EEE-UUU constituents. Perhaps flag football techniques are a better comparison.

"Are they crazy?" This is a WWII redux. The Americans and the Russians are going to have to work together again to save the world. In WWII it was the Nazi menace. This time it is the Islamic menace. In my opinion all of Western Europe is auditioning for the role of Switzerland in the upcoming conflict. Play both sides. Stay neutral. Wait for the winner to be determined.
But the joke is ultimately on the Euro-whores. If the Americans and Russians do not prevail, they Europeans are going to really regret it.
