If untrue, these reports seem to have alot of detail compared to most of the false reports in the past.

Yes, wonder what the game was , perhaps just to discredit the Alawi gor=vernment?.....

Even included such details as .......70 killed, 80 captured of the terrorists guarding Douri who ....... fought to the death.......

At least there was no dry sand around for him to diagram the path of the storm for us!

ROFL

If he has dry sand we know he is faking it.

After giving this entire story some thought and research I began to doubt the whole thing due to there not being any other account of the so called opertion going on in Tikrit and no pictures other than older photos of al-Douri

Iraq national guard commander denies capture of Saddam deputy

A senior commander in the Iraqi national guard has insisted his officers have not captured Saddam Hussein's deputy, Izzat Ibrahim al-Duri.

Major General Ahmed Khalaf Salman, who is commander for the central region where the capture reportedly took place, says the guardsmen were wrong to announce they had apprehended him or participated in any such operation.

He says Iraqi forces did not take part in any operation and did not capture al-Duri.

Earlier, Iraqi officials said Ibrahim was captured in Tikrit, Saddam's hometown and powerbase north of Baghdad, in which 70 of his supporters were reportedly killed and 80 captured.

Via yahoo, 15 minutes ago...so a battle did happen, and Iraqis at least thought it was AL Douri..

"They are baseless. There are search operations by the national guards troops and multinational troops going on during which some terrorist positions were shelled. There were rumors that Izzat al-Douri or someone who resembles him were in that position but we don't have any information on Izzat specifically," he said.

U.S. military officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said al-Douri — who was Saddam's right-hand man before the regime fell — was not in U.S. custody and that they were waiting to hear more from the Iraqis
