Just like 9/11 was a tragedy.

Tragedy my ass, both were slaughters performed by Islamist bastards.

That definition is when referring to dramtic play or something. When referring to an event, this is the proper definition:

A disastrous event, especially one involving distressing loss or injury to life: an expedition that ended in tragedy, with all hands lost at sea.

My dictionary also gives a meaning #3

3. A disastrous event, especially one involving distressing loss or injury to life: an expedition that ended in tragedy, with all hands lost at sea.

Although I agree with you, "tragedy" carries the classical connotation of downfall brought on by a character flaw, usually hubris. It also lacks any implication of a delibrate evil act, as if they were killed by an earthquake or errant meteor.

A far more accurate term would be "outrage".

Extremely good point, Steely. I hope you write CNN and ask them that. I'd love to hear their answer!

This from the same network that brought us the dancing in the wind bozo the other night. Before Frances hit, there was a CNN lying jerk, aka journalist, who was taking two steps back and one forward as if he were about to be blown away by high winds. Odd thing was, the trees behind him were barely moving, his raincoat was not flapping around, and the camera guy was steady and holding the liar in center frame.

Perhaps a more apt term is "evil".

This reminds me of the AP and New Yorks Newsday paper...Everytime the have the word terrorist or terrorists, they sometimes put it in quotes. ex. 'Today, "terrorists" released a new video of a kidnapping'...The best was New yorks Newsday. I live in NYC and my parents live out in Long Island where Newsday mostly sells. I remember when I was out there one day last year, this Vet came back from Iraq because he lost half his foot, and Newsday did an article on him that had headlines that went like this; 'After spending 6 months in Iraq, "hero" returns to family'...Real nice, right? What a slap in the face. Yet they have no problem calling sports stars heroes with no quotes.

Was Abu Gharab a tragedy?

Exactly. According to the commie media, it was much more than that. I'm still waiting for the supposed murders, death and torture to materialize.

Remember the medias' sensationalism (how could we forget, they shoved it down our throats) ATROCITIES, TORTURE, HORRIFIC, SEX, SEX, SEX, HUMILIATION, BRUTALITY, MORE UNBELIEVABLE TORTURE TO BE REVEALED

You'd think with the stories coming out about rape in Beslan that they would love to broadcast that for months. Guess not.

Atrocity. A REAL atrocity, unlike the recent, casual throwaway use of the term that we have endured.

The idiots on Fox News are calling the roadside bombing deaths of seven U.S. Marines a "tragedy".
