Melanie Philips: A War Unlike Any Other (An honest-to-God MUST READ!)
The Daily Mail ^ | September 6, 2004 | Melanie Philips

Posted on 09/06/2004 1:18:11 PM PDT by quidnunc

Suddenly, a far-away country about which most of us know little has shot to the very forefront of our minds and consciences. In a new century already steeped in horror, what happened at the Russian school in Beslan plumbs new depths of barbarity.

The carefully planned slaughter of hundreds of children, a massacre of innocents mown down inside their school by zealots who bayoneted one when he asked for water and who blew others up or shot them in cold blood, is a monstrosity which has had a profound effect upon those who watched in horror as the tragedy unfolded.

The hellish images — of murder, of screaming terror, of naked and starving children forced to eat the flowers they had brought to school or drink their own urine — will surely serve to define our terrorised age. It is impossible to comprehend how human beings can behave like this to anyone, let alone to children.

And that incomprehension makes us realise that we are dealing here with something that is as terrifying as it is diabolical — people who no longer behave as recognisable human beings, who are in the grip of a religious hysteria so profound that human life is of no consequence whatsoever, except as a means to terrorise the world.

-snip-

For I do not believe this was an isolated episode in a fight between Chechen separatists and the Russian government. This was Russia’s 9/11, part of the global jihad being waged against all infidels — Americans, Europeans, Russians, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus or moderate Muslims — in order to re-establish the medieval Islamic global empire. It was, in short, further evidence that we are embroiled in a world war.

Killing icons will not kill Islam. The truth is what sets a man free. Period. Imans have something the politboro members also knew as well .... censorship works, if you can maintain the censor mechanisms.

Kill censorship ... eventually Islam will die.

That is the key to Iraq and the region. What Bush actually says about what the terrorists are mad about in Iraq is TRUE. If we win w/ democracy in Iraq, the censorship ends in Iraq, a short puddle jump from the 'cube' ... and the dagger toward the theology of Islam is slowly driven forward.

Of course, an Implication: the terrorism will grow much, much worse. A cornered rat in its death throes can lash out in a fearsome way....

another snip -

It is argued, though, that the war on Iraq has merely recruited yet more enraged Muslims to al Qaeda’s cause. But it was al Qaeda that attacked the west, not the other way round; and it was Saddam’s Iraq that carried out acts of terror against the US. The west is merely seeking to defend itself in a war that has been declared upon it. In wars, repeated attacks take place. To blame this not on our attackers but on ourselves takes appeasement to new depths of absurdity.

10 of 32 terrorists at Beslan were Arab nationals with Al Qaida ties

http://www.worldtribune.com/worldtribune/breaking_8.html

And even the Chechens who took part, trained with Al qaeda,i.e. they WERE AQ.

" Most of the attackers were Chechens and Ingush who had been trained at Al Qaida camps in Afghanistan."

THIS WAS AN AL QAEDA OPERATION.

"the children in russia crap"

You have a problem with empathy. Most people are not trying to compare the 9-11 "brown-nosing" victims to the "children in russia". Both are abhorrent.

But, "the children in russia crap" may be just enough to prove to some people that the War on Islamic Terror is ongoing, and maybe it can serve as another wake-up call. Maybe it will bring Russia more solidly in line with the Bush doctrine.

I'm not sure how many more we will get before the Islamic Radicals try another big one on us. I hope and pray Americans wake up before they do.

We will see a lot of this sort of disruption here from now until November. Good Freepers will help the Mods keep the place swept out.

First Mecca then Medina and issue an ultimatum that everytime they pull off an attack we will tacnuke/nuetron or otherwise LEVEL another HOLY PLACE, until there are NONE left and those that try to rebuild will only find rubble after their work is complete.

It is time the WESTERN world realize that it is our very way of life that is being threatened. Wake up OLD EUROPE!!! Time to smell the coffee.

You are right.

This is indeed a MUST READ.

I just read it, and one really can't convey the info very well -- everyone needs to read the full article, but here is another relevant excerpt:

"But Russia’s weakness carries a dire warning for us, too. For the west is also weak, in its ignorance, prejudice and gullibility. Terrorism only became such a potent weapon of war because the west allowed it to happen. From the first plane hijacks in the sixties, the west showed weakness by refusing to confront the perpetrators and even rewarding them by paying attention to their purported grievances.

When the US was repeatedly attacked by Islamic terrorism throughout the 1980s and 1990s, it merely sat on its hands, made token responses, or decided to cut and run. Osama bin Laden concluded from this that the US was weak. We know this because he said so. And so he unleashed 9/11.

But instead of learning the correct lesson that the current horrors are the result of such a failure to act, the west has succumbed to historical amnesia over those previous attacks. It is convulsed instead by hysteria over the war on Iraq, with absurd conspiracy theories about Zionists and ‘neo-conservatives’ surfacing instead almost daily in the mainstream media and driving out rational debate."

People!...people people people...We have to realize that without understanding why these freedomfighters hate us so, we will never be able to confront them in a more sensitive way. I propose that all of you look to your greedy and salacious hearts, and start the healing within your own souls. Without self understanding of our own malicious attempts of riding herd on all the world, for OUR OWN benefit of OIL OIL OIL, we will lose this battle.

(I really hope [/sarcasm] is not needed)

I think our greatest weakness is our political correctness. News organizations can't even report this story using the correct word--"terrorists"--they search for euphemisms instead. They usually cannot bring themselves to say "Islamic" or to mention the race of many of the terrorists. Until we name this horror, and call it what it is, we will continue to be weak.

But let's not forget the lack of coverage of this atrocity in Beslan, either. Even Fox frittered the day away with Geraldo nattering on about how well a sailboat was being steered in the hurricane--a sailboat, it turns out, that wasn't being steered. It was anchored at sea to ride out the storm. So much for Geraldo the Sailer--but meanwhile, the news was mute about the horror that occurred in Beslan.

For shame.
