Shaking Up Islam in America
Time ^ | 9/5/04 | ASRA Q. NOMANI

Posted on 09/06/2004 4:20:48 PM PDT by Valin

Pundits have long been asking whether Islam is ready for a reform. The answer is that across the U.S., a quiet tide of Islamic reform is very much under way. In Chicago last year, the Downtown Islamic Center made room for four women on its board after they protested the design of a new mosque that would have given women inadequate space in which to pray. Instead, women got access to the main hall when the new mosque opened in July. In Dearborn, Mich., earlier this year, Imam Mohammed Mardini welcomed Christian women who weren't covering their hair, over the protests of men who wanted them barred. In Sacramento, Calif., not long ago, mosque leaders wrote their bylaws with clauses guaranteeing tolerance and gender equity. In New York City an e-magazine, Muslim WakeUp!, organizes monthly gatherings for Muslims who want to make their communities more tolerant.

(snip) But our protests have also helped bring about a transformation. In May the first woman was elected to mosque leadership. In June mosque authorities publicly reversed policy and said women could enter through the front door and pray in the main hall. Since our actions began, more women attend worship services. Last month we won an even bigger victory. A Ph.D. student declared from the pulpit that "one of the most important fundamentals of our religion is to love and be loyal to Islam and the Muslims and to hate and renounce the disbelievers," the "cursed" Jews and Christians. I immediately protested the sermon, as did others. In the past, leaders have looked the other way. This time they called an emergency meeting and did the right thing. They fired the student from his post giving sermons.

Moderate Muslims = the ones who do not take over a school and blow up infidel children, they are the ones who keep quiet about it, provide safehouses, supply weapons and keep the money flowing...

The reforms that Islam needs are:
1) to recognize prior scripture as authentic and authoritative.
2) to recognize Jesus as the Son of God, the Messiah, and as the means of salvation
3) to recognize Mohammed as a false prophet

No modernization of women's or human rights is going to change Islam's nature. Only a true change of heart and an embracing of the Creator's plan will do.

When will the Muslims denounce the teachings of the Koran dealing with Jews and infidels?

By your logic, does my own religion, Judaism, also need these reforms?

The PhD student was just quoting the Quran. How much reform can they really impose? What takes precedent, protests or the Quran?

O you who believe! Take not the jews and the christians as Auliyaa' (friends, protectors, helpers, etc.), they are but Auliyaa' to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as Auliyaa', then surely he is one of them. Verily, Allah guides not those people who are the zaalimoon (polytheists and wrong doers and unjust).

That's why I boycott ALL Muslim owned businesses in America. At the risk of sounding like a Bircher, how do we know that our money isn't going to some terrorist cell in the Middle East?

How absurd... If you are not a member of that religion, why insist that you don't have to follow their rules ?

Moderate Muslims = those lowlifes who fund the killing and stand by, silently.

Radical Muslims = those subhuman garbage who do the killing, and whom are hidden and protected by the Moderate Muslims.

CAIR = those subhuman filth whom raise money for the radical trash, and lie, lie, lie about their agenda.

ACLU = hate-America traitors who actively try to subvert and destroy America. Part of The Fifth Column.

RICO Act = should be used to duly charge, try, convict, sentence and execute Muslims, CAIR and ACLU.

They fired the student from his post giving sermons.

Keep firing until they all reclaim their personhood and start thinking for themselves.

Because moderate Muslims have kept quiet for so long, Islam has lost all credibility.

That's the problem. Moderate Muslims are Muslims who are either ignorant or, or ignore, much of their religion. They will quote from the earlier verses of the Koran, when Mohammed advocated peace, love and understanding with the infidels (when Muslims were a small, weak minority) and ignore the later, belligerent verses.

A good question if you don't understand Islam. The law of Allah is to be imposed on believers and unbelievers equally. Just ask the Christians in southern Nigeria for example. They are faced with Sharia Law in some states and face penalties of death and dismemberment for disobeying Islamic principles, stealing, etc...
