I Can't Take Gun To Debate With Me
AP ^ | 9/8/04 | DARLENE SUPERVILLE

Bush, in Missouri, defended his decision to go to war, saying "it was right for America and it's right for America now that Saddam Hussein is no longer in power."

In West Virginia, Cecil Roberts, president of the United Mine Workers of America, gave Kerry a rifle as a gift. Kerry, a self-described gun-owner and hunter, quipped: "I thank you for the gift, but I can't take it to the debate with me."

"but I can't take it to the debate with me."

What does that mean? What if a Republican said that?

Much ado about nothing I think. However, I'm glad I don't have sharp objects in my hand when I debate sometimes *LOL*

It's probably just as well, John. You might nick yourself with it.

What if a Republican said that?

They'd have breaking news reports on the network news channels.

That's almost as good as my 5 year old's quote that his friend is "faster than a chocolate bar."

Well immediately an apology would be DEMANDED!

That being said, someone should tell Kerry that the 2nd amendment has nothing to do with hunting.

30 years ago, it would have made no difference if a person had brought in a gift of a gun anywhere.

the POS progressive socialist democrats have made self-defense, hunting, and sport an "evil" for the "commoner" - only THEY can have guns since THEY are your "lords".

Read up on the reasons for having the "RHODES SCHOLAR" program! Wouldn't you love to be under the 'Rue Britannia' system again of Lords and serfs.

Doesn't really matter. He'd have to call in the U.N. for a resolution first.

According to the MSM:

Democrat: "Edgy humor"

Republican: "Gun-toting kook who should be locked up"

Better he left the shotgun at home. He might have a relapse of his 90 days in the Nam and shoot a toe off.

The sick liberal media sychophants came down so hard on Zell Miller for his speech. Listen to that remark of Kerry's!

Is Kerry going to bring that jerk into his campaign who wrote the play about killing the President?

For some reason, Democrats with guns don't represent quite the threat they think they do...

It would be hysterical if the Secret Service patted Kerry down onstage before the debate starts but after the network coverage starts.

Just last week, somebody fired a bullet in WV Republican headquarters, with 20 people inside watching the convention.

Now Kerry's in WV talking about bringing guns to debates. It's really just a stupid, harmless remark, but if W had said the same he would be crucified.

If a Republican said that it would a Special Report interrupting some fat ladys soap operas telling her that the Republican hinted at killing his democratic rival.

Usually I think things like this are much ado about nothing. In this case I'm not sure.

The electorate is inflamed. Advertisements compare President Bush to Hitler. Farenheit 911 demonizes the President. Over at DU the President is treated with utter disrespect. There is an upcoming fiction book about killing President Bush.

I think that it is astonishing and repugnant that airplanes are required to make emergency landings because someone writes a word on a food tray or a bathroom mirror, but the Democratic candidate, weapon in hand, is joking about shooting President Bush at a Presidential debate on national television. Rather than calming the electorate down, Sen. Kerry is inciting them. Remember his comment toward the beginning of the campaign, when he said that Republicans "are the lowest, the most vicious..."? At that time he was embarrassed and tried to deny that he meant what he said.

I think that Kerry is certifiably nuts, and it is starting to come out. His midnight meltdown was the most blatant example, but comments like this one are an additional window into his mind.

This is a big problem.

You're right that this really isn't a big deal. It's just something Kerry said on the spur of the moment, probably trying to be funny. But if GWB had said it you just KNOW it would've been front page news.
