Before I give the details of today's Kerry rally FReep, I must commend fellow FReeper Mike Fieschko for driving from Raleigh to Greensboro early this messy morning to help me with this pro-Bush demonstration. If I missed any other members of FR who were in attendance, I apologize. A rainy morning awaited Mike Fieschko and myself two hours prior to the 11:00 am Kerry rally in Greensboro, NC. We FReepers were the first two demonstators to show up (for either side) as we were directed by police across the street from the rally's venue. Those 500 "lucky souls" with tickets to Kerry's townhall meeting were lined up and entering the Downtown Depot, slowly progressing as they went through security. Within the next couple of hours, about 50 of the Kerry faithful arrived to show their support outside with their signs stating the usual garbage (Bush Lied/Millions Died, "W" stands for Wrong, Teamsters/CWA Workers For Kerry).
We were herded together in one large group, with no seperation of the two partisan sides. Needless to say, things became testy as the Kerry folks began to notice our Bush-Cheney and homemade, pro-Bush signs. Some began to question why we were at "their rally" (the Left still believes that the First Amendment is reserved for them). Others asked, "what about the dead in Iraq and the national debt"? Our pro-Bush group had grown to ten supporters by this time, so the shouting matches began, back and forth. But I noticed that the pro-Kerry folks always ended up screaming and cursing at us (I heard plenty of F-bombs, GD's, even a "kill Bush" comment). We Bushies stayed on the high road and continued to debate with them in a civil manner. My favorite attack came from a twenty-something, Woodstock, slutty, femi-Nazi gal who had the nerve to call us "scum-buckets". Coming from anyone else besides her may have offended me, but I couldn't help but laugh hearing her utter this barb. The only confrontational "close-call" came when a elderly female Kerry supporter stepped in front of one of our Bush guys and he politely sheltered the uncovered woman from the drizzling rain with his Bush sign. She instantly twirled around and threatened to "slug" the guy if he put the sign over her head again. This witch was dead serious as fire was coming from her eyes. So nice to know that Kerry supporters are the "peace-loving, non-violent" individuals that they claim to be.
On a positive note, our pro-Bush group did get exposure, as we were interviewed and videotaped by three local news stations (WFMY-2, WGHP-Fox8, and WUPN-48/NewsCentral). Free Republic and Protest Warrior got some free publicity as I mentioned them on my homemade sign. Two Greensboro policemen even gave us the "thumbs up" as they read our signs.
A couple of observations I noted during this rally: you can have a civil discussion with a Kerry supporter, one-on-one (most of the time), but when a crowd of 20-30 gets together, the mob mentality kicks in (get ready to catch hell). Also, there was absolutely nothing positive said by the Kerry faithful about John Kerry himself; its was nothing but the same old, anti-Bush, hate-filled venom.
Finally, at 11:30 am, the Kerry motorcade passes by as it pulls into the Downtown Depot (30 minutes late, eventhough he stayed over night in Greensboro). I left soon after, somewhat discouraged that we were outnumber roughly 4-1, but I was also proud that two Freepers, two UNC-G College Republicans, one other Protest Warrior, and five Republican supporters braved the rain and hate in order to send the message that North Carolina is still "Bush Country".
Bravo!
Way to go!! Great report!
Good on y'all!
So Kerry is going to win this election by speaking to 500 people at each stop and Bush is going to lose and he is speaking to 20,000 people at a time.
Ahhhh, do the numbers.
I think I smell the coffee.
Thanks for the report, it is good to hear that he is starting to draw the crowds he deserves.
Thanks for doing what you did today - I'm sure being in the rain with all those smelly sKerry people was like being stuck in a windowless room with a smelly, wet RAT.
Job well done!
He's getting close to resembling the pork chop around the neck joke.
exactly my thinking - yesterday he's preaching to the choir of his lowest base supporters in Cleveland and this absurd waste of time today. truly the most pathetic campaign ever devised.
Good for you. Thanks for the report.
Come on, that's not really fair. I'm sure Kerry's crowd was limited by the size of the facility. If he'd leased the Greensboro Coliseum, he could have drawn 550, easily.
They pulled Edtards off the campaign by himself because no one was showing up at the rallys. So now no one is coming to hear Kerry. In Ohio the other day in a crowd of 3,500 half were Bush supporters booing Kerry. And this in an area that has 6 dems to 1 repub.
Please post some pics.
Also, there was absolutely nothing positive said by the Kerry faithful about John Kerry himself; its was nothing but the same old, anti-Bush, hate-filled venom.
This is what it's all about for most of the Kerry supporters. They are not out to get their man elected, they're out to get President Bush unelected. They wouldn't care if it was Ralph Nader, Joseph Stalin, or Satan himself; as long as it's not President Bush.
The democrats made a mistake when they picked Kerry to carry their flag. He has too many strikes against him to start with. Along with his anti-war record in the 70's, they think that most Americans have forgotten 9/11, the USS Cole, and all the other terrorist attacks. Americans probably have forgotten most of the others but 9/11 won't soon be forgotten.
Most of the votes Kerry gets won't be FOR him, they will be AGAINST President Bush.
That's no way to win an election.
Remember this when you compare the numbers:
-- Republicans have jobs; RATs do not
-- These are "paid" protestors
-- Or they were bused in for the day
-- They could NOT have thought of the "W for Wrong" slogan without DNC help
Thanks for the compliments. Sorry, but no pics available, but we did get on TV (local media was fair in its coverage of the demonstrators outside, eventhough the Kerry faithful outnumbered us 4-1)
Excellent job. Thanks for doing this and for your report.
You done us proud.
