e board of Log Cabin Republicans, the largest group for gay men and lesbians in the party, voted overwhelming last night against endorsing President Bush for re-election because of his support for a proposed constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.
The decision ends six months of soul-searching as the group, which endorsed Mr. Bush in 2000 and Bob Dole in 1996, wrestled with its divided loyalties.
Although the group was immediately critical when the president announced his support for the amendment in February, it pointedly refrained from ruling out an endorsement. Its effort to balance loyalty to the party with opposition to a major item on the Republican agenda has made it a target of criticism from both supporters and opponents of the proposed amendment.

I'm sorry...did Bush ever pretend to champion their cause? This is a rediculous, non sequitur statement.
Bush never tried to woo them - I distinctly remember one debate, leading to the first election, where he said he supported equal rights, not special rights. This is obviously a "special right" they are aiming for, so he will not pull a Kerry and decide to change his mind...
They should vote for Kerry and quit harrassing the rest of us.
Ah, the ulltimate dilemna - vote for Bush and risk losing an opportunity for gay marriage but have someone dedicated to saving your life from terrorists OR vote for Kerry and risk getting an opportunity for gay marriage but have someone who is dedicated to a laissez faire approach to terrorists. Hmmmm, gay marriage or national defense...hmmm, the logical gay will hold his nose (or his significant other's) and vote for Bush and an active, national defense.
I believe an oxymoron slipped through.
Sort of amazing. They are single issue voters. Why do they pretend to be anything else? That the islamic fascists will kill them in a heartbeat does not matter. Having a government piece of paper condoning their unions does. Ergo, they'll kowtow to those who want to kill them by taking their votes and going home to pout. Then, they'll hope someone else resists the terrorists because their feelings are hurt. They act like little spoiled children.
This is a terrible blow...... Never mind!
So now, after all these years, their Democrat votes are official instead of being covert. Hmmm, with that kind of vote, those many announcements and other lobby efforts, maybe they should've called themselves the Susan B. Anthony Republicans. It would've sounded so much nicer in a different way, too, than the Log thing.
In the party? The Satanist Republicans, The Abortionist Republicans and The Tax and Spend Republicans need not apply either.
I think they should just split off and have their own little "Gay Party". This will pull more votes away from the Dims just like the Green Party did. I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over it.
Did all three of them vote not to endorse, or only a majority?
"Log Cabin Republicans", what is the MEANING behind this name?
So much for the "big tent" theory being good for the entire Republican party
So John Kerry gets the gay vote and George Bush gets the presidency.
I can live with that.
Time to burn the log cabin and place the ashes outside the "big tent".
Dang those headline editors over at the New York Slimes! They completely dumped the subtitle of the article: Conservative and Moderate Democrats welcome the move, join with Republicans to not only defend the nation from enemies foreign, but also domestic.
