How Goes the Race? Kerry Finds Himself Hardscrabbling Out of an Awful August
The Richmond [VA] Times-Dispatch ^ | September 9, 2004 | Ross Mackenzie

Posted on 09/08/2004 9:20:08 PM PDT by quidnunc

Since John Kerry's nomination for President, he has taken a bath in the polls. August was awful for him, and thus far September is worse.

Things began to head south for Kerry at the convention, when he made his service in Vietnam his principal theme. Soon thereafter Swift Boat Veterans for Truth came along, combined with the best-selling book Unfit for Command, disputing some of Kerry's claims about his Vietnam service — and raising questions about his trustworthiness and judgment. At first Kerry did not respond; then he responded poorly, helping the Swiftees make their case. What's more, the Swiftees are keeping on. They're not going away.

As Ross Perot used to say, think about it.

Here's Kerry, (1) maybe having embellished his war record, (2) departing Vietnam early to become an altar boy of Teddy Kennedy (fresh from his heroism at Chappaquiddick), (3) joining the likes of Jane Fonda and other screamers on the ramparts, (4) launching his political career with remarks to Congress alleging war crimes on the part of his government and fellow servicemen — and then (5) going on to use Vietnam as the centerpiece of his campaign for President in 2004.

Talk about unbright: Kerry doesn't get it. Clearly he hadn't gotten it an hour after President Bush completed his acceptance speech in New York. There was Kerry — at a midnight rally in Springfield, Ohio — in an oddly rambling attack on Messrs. Bush and Cheney and blithering yet again about a 30-year-old war divisive then and divisive now.

How marvelous to read a post such as this, after all the posts of articles attacking President Bush on his ANG service.

Like the author, I am dumbstruck (is that even a word?) by Kerry's seeming total stupidity in this campaign. Not that I don't like it, but he's certainly not running his campaign like a man who has been in the senate for so many years.

Actually, he's running it EXACTLY like a man who has been in the Senate for so many years.

"Don't you know who I am?"

august, as bad as it was for jacques kerry, could merely be the beginning of the end for him. it's possible that he could look back on august as "the good old days" of his campaign.

That's true, I just figured he'd somehow be smarter about the fights he chooses to start. I mean, bringing up Vietnam when he knew about O'Neill and the SBVs, and he had to know that his testimony about alleged war crimes would come out, and his irrefutable record of senate votes, and on and on. He's just acting so incredibly stupid about everything.

Of course, to the ABB-ers, none of this matters. Maybe that's his angle.

.
Just hold on, Kerry, September is gonna be a whole lot worse.

If the best you can do is paint lovely Laura Bush as a drug dealer, you really have lost it.

Check out the John F. Kerry Timeline.

"He's just acting so incredibly stupid about everything."

It looks like shear stupidity to us, but actually it is something more complicated, that is to say "nuanced". It is obsession, he is, by many reports, and obviously, OBSESSED with Vietnam, with his service, with his rejection of his service, with some sick and twisted need to both exault and disdain his service.

Maybe John Kerry, for all his worldly success is really, deep inside, the stereotypical "damaged" vet of Vietnam, that he did so much to create. That would work, you see, because it would continue to be all about HIM.

Kerry and the democrats have been inhaling their own exhaust for so long, they have become out of touch with the nation. Kerry is a liar. He really believes he can just say anything on everything and get away with it. If someone calls him on it, he plays the victim and screams fear and smear, lies and distortions, etc, etc.

There are enough questions out there now, folks will at least try to find out the truth. It's not hard - just turn on talk radio.

Folks,I think I have it figured out:

Imagine yourself rolling over in bed in the morning and the first thing you see is Theresa Babe !!

If that won't send a man to the loony bin I sure don't know what will. Politics aside, that would ruin a man's whole week, not just the day !!!

It is obvious to this old man that Kerry's gross ineptness has everything to do with his emotional debilitation and deep depression from having sold his soul to a face (and body) that would stop a clock, cold!!!

Ahhhh, what a man will do for money and power! Shame!

This is a classic case of complete and utter rage taking over all rational thought. The democrats can't even think. I love it.
