Kerry calls Iraq war 'catastrophic choice'
Boston Globe ^ | September 9, 2004 | Patrick Healy

.....While Kerry did not offer a detailed strategy of his own for Iraq, several advisers said they were examining options for withdrawing US troops from Iraq by the end of 2008, a goal the Democratic presidential nominee set on Monday. Ideas include convening a series of meetings with other heads of state, first Europeans and then Middle Eastern leaders, and offering financial incentives that invite nations like Russia, France, Egypt, and Jordan to contribute troops to Iraq.

Kerry advisers in Washington yesterday discussed the timing of a possible speech on Iraq strategy, including the concern of some that unveiling an exit plan that -- even though it may excite some voters critical of the war -- may lock Kerry into a game plan that does not fit the conflict come January 2005.

" . . . But we don't want to tie the senator's hands by staking a plan right now. Iraq is so complex, we have to tread carefully."

Campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill, when asked if Kerry would explain how he would withdraw troops in four years, said: "I think you'll see John Kerry's plans for Iraq unfolding as the race continues this fall."

Kerry has struggled for more than a year to clarify his views on Iraq, and yesterday's speech was full of sharply worded rebukes to set him apart from Bush, such as his use of the word "wrong" 29 times in a half-hour speech to describe the choices, directions, and leadership that the president offered. The harsh language reflected his campaign's repositioning of him in an underdog role -- a role he likes as races wind down -- in light of three polls early this week that gave Bush the first clear edge in the race.....

Great plan. Tell our enemies that we are leaving and set a firm date.

Its so much better then Bush’s “we will be there until the job is done.” I can really see the military strategist in Kerry.

After all, installing US friendly regimes in Japan and Germany didn’t work right?

Lets see, the Korean war and Vietnam war were both affairs where the US did not force US friendly regime change and they turned out alright.

"Idiot" does seem the operative word. Though I suspect coward explains him better. He seems, like many other "intellectual" elite phonies, to live in constant fear of looking stupid.

So if he has no damn idea what to do, he just fakes it. The problem the Rats have is that this guy has been faking it long enough to directly contradict himself scores of times on scores of issues.

Ahhh, but we are missing some great intellectual nuance. You see his ever changing tapestry of plans is ingeniously woven of magic thread that only the truly worthy super leftist elitist phony baloney snobs can see...

He has no plan.

Europe has a plan.

The Kerry/Euro plan is, the U.S. relinquishes superpower status, socializes their government and then terrorists won't bother us anymore.

You know, according to John Kerry, the U.S. is just too independent and protected.

I now understand Kerry's strategy: If he switches his position often enough, GW won't be able to dispute him on anything.

Really, does Kerry even know if he's left or right handed? Does he switch on that, too? One may wonder but find many other worthwhile things to consider instead...

offering financial incentives that invite nations like Russia, France, Egypt, and Jordan to contribute troops to Iraq.

Ah, Kerry's new idea: a coalition of the bribed.

".....While Kerry did not offer a detailed strategy of his own for Iraq...."

Oh but he did, he truly did. Just yesterday, he said he would do "a whole bunch of stuff that the president hasn't even considered yet!"

It's true, he actually said that. So don't tell me he hasn't offered a detailed strategy!!!

;>)
