Cheers. We may be but few in number (20 million vs America's - what, 290 or 300 million?), but we ARE a fair part of the "Coalition of the Willing"... and shall stay that way, if I have any say in it.

This stupid article is still around?
I would expect any pilot of the F-102 to want to perform as many landings (via touch and go) as he possibly can.
Even in the T-33, I would guess that LT.Bush was working on his Alpha down the glideslope.
When landing the F-102 or any delta-wing aircraft, Alpha, and the ability to hold a certain unit down the glideslope is the most critical aspect of getting down safely. There is very little envelope available between excessive sink-rate nose-low and stall nose high. Delta-wing pilots had to be precise, otherwise end up as a lawn dart at the end of the runway.
That this story is so popular in the media, is only testament to their absolute ignorance of military aviation.

Unbelievable.
The AP A-holes making a big deal about multiple landing attempts.
I have a private pilots lisence, and believe me, multiple pass landings are no big deal. In fact, they are often the norm, especially in heavy weather.
The AP are totally in the tank for Kerry, as if we didn't already know.

I delivered food to Outback Steakhouse and TGIFridays
in ND and MN. When finished in Fargo ND, I would go to
a place,Dakota Pasta,north of Hector Field. I could
watch aircraft do touch and go practice while I was
sitting at the dock. I'm sure this was normal
training for Bush and all pilots.

We even coined a term for those of our buddies who did:
