There is no doubt that memos came from Kerry campaign. Apparently they tried to circulate them to others beyond CBS.
Today's questions around the newsroom coffee pot are: "It's so obvious these are bad forgeries. Why didn't CBS do their homework?" The answer seems to be that three groups at CBS very much wanted to be credited with unseating President Bush. 1, The oh-so-liberal, far left wing young producers, 2, the old "New York mindset" senior producers and 3, Dan Rather himself.
Rather may try to say it was all underlings, but oldtimers remember his open combativeness with Nixon and his public addoration of the Clintons.
It's like "Tailwind" on CNN when the young producers just "knew" we committed war crimes in RVN, so they reported a psychotic's ramblings that we used poison gas on our own POWs.
Tonight's headlines will begin to name names.... and by tonight there will be inferences that Kerry himself approved the release of the obviously phony documents. Why? He is tanking and can't stand the heat from his own RVN cowardace.
Will Rather go? Probably not. He is the Brand. But he will forever be tarnished by, and remembered by this event. He will "retire" in a few months, years and fade away. He will be seen as more of a bafoon than a serious journalist.
Someone in the Kerry campaign will fall on their sword, and the DNC will look to 2008.
A major terrorist attack could upset everything, but this is unprecedented in America.
The critical questions is not why or how was CBS fooled. The critical question is why did they go with something that was an obvious forgery.
Public reaction: It stinks. See, we were right about Rather. Kerry is Clinton Jr.

This stuff came directly from McAwful and the DNC. I know it did because they kept bringing this stuff up during the campaign and we were wondering why they were bringing up something that was so irrelevant. This was what they were waiting for and it backfired on them BIG TIME.

The Kerry campaign is 100% behind this fraud.
They promsed a smear campaign last week and they started with this NG stuff and then next week Kitty Kelly will be on the Today's Show for THREE days.
A fool is even able to see that this week the smear started as a reaction to Bush's incredible convention and poll numbers.

p.s. I think Rather has already said (some time ago) that he plans to retire after the election.
