WOW...this post/thread was one second ahead of mine..so mine became the duplicate.

But this is amazing. CBS is hosed. They are liars and a fraud.

The son is sharp, and was an officer in the unit himself. He told CBS that the documents were likely false, his mopther did the same (and is now openly calling CBS and 60 Minutes a farce) and they both gave names of other officeres (including Udell who trained Bush) who would vouch for the President's service and not lend credence to the slant of their hit peace. CBS ignored all of it...and never mentioned it.

This interview is ongoing and folks should tune in.

Is it really hosed? Will ABC, NBC, CNN and the rest of the MSM pick this up? Will anyone other than FOX viewers, FReepers and bloggers find out the truth?
Or will Peter Jennings just barely mention it in passing with some derogatory comment?
CBS is still standing by the story, insisting that the preponderance of the evidence supports the authenticity of the documents. I can see it being just swept under the rug with everything else.

I just watched Dan Rather's sidewalk interview and his listing off the questions Bush needs to answer. Let me tell you, that performance was right out of the Clinton playbook. Rather's going to gut it out, look into the camera, deny the evidence, deny reality, and stick to his story. He's got the DNC and all Kerry's spokesmen backing him up...their spin is exactly the same as his.

It is Friday, Ivan is about to hit Florida, I think Rather, CBS, the DNC and the Kerry campaign figure they'll get away with this. All they wanted to do was change some undecided votes, and give their base a thrill by putting Bush in the hot seat again, over his National Guard service.

I was listening to Hannity in the car when this was on. As much as I like to think nothing surprises me anymore, my jaw was hanging open.
Even under the virtually blank check given the media under NY Times v Sullivan, this could be libel/slander. I know they'll never be a libel suit but 'malice' under Time v Sullivan is the big hurdle. And 'malice' under that case doesn't mean evil intent. Essentially you have to prove that the utterer knew the defamatory statements were untrue when they made them.
This could just meet that test.

This is quickly becoming a strategic election issue rather than a tactical one concerning CBS and Ra^ther's bias.

ABC Nightline shifted away from its planned coverage of this issue at the last moment last night.

It appears that CBS is going to stick by its lies, right or wrong.

Fox News and the non-MSM are the only ones pushing the issue of authenticity.

ABCNEWS, MSNBC, and the CNN websites are all sporting the AP version of the story (each with minor alterations) which plays down the "assertions" that the critical documents were forged, but highlights the criticisms of Bush's guard service as the gospel truth.

ABC, CNN, and MSNBC appear to be circling the wagons to provide cover for CBS, when more rational business competitors would be digging for scoops to gain market share. This is not a business issue for the leftist MSM.

The opposition appears to be digging in its heels for a major offensive. If the legal issues pertaining to the forging of the documents are not pursued, the MSM will continue reporting the allegations as factual until the election and beyond.

I just listened to the interview a second time on Hannity's tape delay here in OK. My opinion of CBS was low before but now they are at the very bottom and should be sued by everyone involved starting with Rather for knowingly putting false documents on the air and claiming they were legit. They were told they were phoney and they ran with the story because of their anti-Bush bias IMO.

It was an incredible interview...I felt so outraged, so astounded when Killian's son (and indeed, he is very well spoken!) said that Mapes, upon contacting him and asking about documents (he was totally in the dark about) and such, that when he OFFERED up the names you mentioned in your post as people who could shed light on President Bush's guard service, as well as his deceased father, Mapes ACTUALLY TOLD HIM about one of the names...."Oh, that person is in the Bush Camp...."

I guess this horror of an so called producer, reporter, liar, whatever....discovered along the way that KILLIAN and his MOM are also in the so called 'BUSH CAMP' and THAT IS WHY THEY WERE LEFT OUT OF THE INTERVIEW.

THE VERY PEOPLE WHO KNEW KILLIAN BEST! (And yet they asked people who MIGHT have known of Bush's service questions and USED THOSE!)
