I'm not certain that "the world" actually wants to understand human nature. Man has gone from a savage to basically good to a machine without a will. Instead of getting closer to an understanding of human nature, we are drifting (perhaps even speeding) away from it.

FWIW, I believe the proaborts have admitted that life begins at conception. They are now intent on ensuring that the imaginary event of personhood can never be established before birth. The unborn child, therefore, cannot be a person and therefore deserves no rights even though he is human.

Yes, Dataman. This is what I just love about folks like this (NOT!). Whenever they lose an argument, their fall-back position is to propose an even more irrational, increasingly absurd argument. Yet as someone once said, "in the fight between you and the world, back the world": which I take to mean the truth of reality cannot be altered or compromised by human willing and wishing. Though at the moment it appears as if the inmates are running the asylum -- and they are really, really crazy -- this cannot last.

Classical thinkers, such as Plato and Aristotle, would say that what we have here is not so much a disease of the mind, but a disease of the soul -- nosos, or nosemos -- that is, a spiritual disease.

These days, one of my favorite examples of a person suffering from acute spiritual disorder (if I can name names) is Maureen Dowd. That woman is so filled with hatred and spleen that she's slowing poisoning herself....

But this strange complex of ideas and attitudes cannot last, it seems to me, any more than fascism or communism could last. It seems to me really bad ideas invoke their own correction in time. In our own time, we are seeing this process play out -- which is why our society appears to be so very polarized right now. The "other side" senses their impending total irrelevance, and they are filled with rage (and, I'm beginning to suspect, desperation), though they are impotent to do anything about it.

So do not despair, Dataman! Put your trust in the Lord, and do not lose hope. We live in fascinating times....

Thank you so much for sharing your insightful reply to Dataman! And thank you Dataman for raising the issue!

Indeed. The countenance of a strong Christian is pleasant because he is not consumed by fear or hate. His conversation confirms this strength and gentleness; people are drawn by it and thereby Christ is magnified.

OTOH, many of those who do not yet believe (or have stalled in their walk with Lord) - show their lack of faith in both their words and their countenance. Left unattended, the spiritual illness of hate and worry will metastize, until the spiritual disease also corrupts the body.

IMHO, one of the best lines from the move "Dune" is that fear is the mind killer. Fear is the opposite of faith, no wonder it kills the mind.

As in "suppressing the truth?"
