The Times noticed differences in the two sets of signatures and asked Mr. Hussey to do an evaluation. The Times provided Mr. Hussey with copies of the CBS documents, which he dubbed Q-1-3, and records known to have been signed by Col. Killian, (K-1-3). "It is my opinion based on the examination of the Q-1 through Q-3 and K-1 through K-3, that Jerry B. Killian probably did not sign his name to Q-1 and his initial to Q-3," Mr. Hussey said in a signed letter to The Times. "As to the authenticity of the CBS documents, that is Q-1 through Q-3, [they] appear to be product of a computer, rather than a typewriter."

This certified expert has come to the same conclusion. It is a bit of a releif to know I am not imagining this difference!
Plus, CBS will not discuss the real or alleged source of these documents. Imagine not even generally describing who had them and why? There are reports these documents were in the hands of the DNC and then the Kerry campaign for weeks. Cetainly rather knows that will destroy their credibility. Also makes Rather an incredible slime when he criticizes those who question the documents as "partisans." He knows the source of the docs themselves is Kerry.
Phil Dragoo has provided us with the incredible link below that will show us how the forgery was done on a computer with MS Word 2002.
Go to the link and just sit back and watch the forgery recreated in about one minute.

That is a great site. I wish I had the time in my life to learn how to make a page like that. Anyone who hasn't seen that page, it is the definition of a MUST SEE.
That's great! I put it in my favorites so I can haul it out later for my liberal friends. Thanks.
UNBELIEVABLE, JF'n unbelievable.
Use it with your emails and other communication.
I will use it in emails to the sponsors of that pos C BS ran posing as news. I will ask them if they like their good name sponsoring forgery.
Apparently the non expert looked at the copies of the signatures.
Now he is weaseling out. He is not a hand writing expert.
To me, the major question arising from this story is WHY a supposedly major news organization thinks it should go with a story that has so many problems.
The family told CBS they thought the memos were false. Knowing the influence they could have on the election, they went with them anyway. Very shoddy, and totally irreseponsible journalism.
Remember how they wouldn't cover the Monica story because it "didn't have enough sources?"
The internet is a land of rumors. Everything gets floated, and then get checked and doublechecked here. It's a great initial place to figure out life. But a company like CBS is supposed to know what it is doing.
Actually, I think you should create a seperate post (unless it's already been done and I missed it) with this as the subject. It would get much wider exposure here.
That web page showing a recreation of the memo which compares it to Rather's version was great!
I was a little concerned because the lower loop on the "g" in "flight" and in "George" is small on the Rather document and larger on the document created by MS word.
So I checked how a "g" would look in Palatino in MSWord on my Mac.
The g's lower loop is small, as it is in the Rather version.
The variation in the loop size is not a problem, I'd guess.
That is something else that bothers me. This is such a POOR forgery. They could easily have used a 1972 vintage typewriter (I have 2 in my house, probably millions more around), could easily have used standard military formants, and could easily have pasted in an authentic signature. Why didn't they? Why the sorry job of counterfeiting. Is it meant to distract us for a subsequent and more professionally done forgery? Was it a ploy to discredit CBS? Why?
The main thesis, is that the forged documents would have been impossible to create with an old Air National Guard typewriter.
Grampa, I wanna hug your neck in thanks for posting that link to Phil's great work. We need to spread that link everywhere!!! I just emailed it to lots of my buds. Wonder if Phil has sent it to SeeBS yet himself?
I agree. Even if it made a duplicate post, no one should miss that site.
I understand...I'm just trying to forestall Dem picky arguments.
Who is Phil Dragoo? It is an awesome animation, and I copied it for use in my post F U Dan Rather (The Smoking Gun). Hopefully he won't mind.
