Suspend your gag relex for a minute and imagine you are a DU dweeb, a lamestream media reporter or a DNC operative. You have watched in horror as the CBisS memo story has been picked apart by amateur slueths at various blogs and forums. Then you realize that they could all be discredited and publically humiliated simply by demonstrating that the memos in question could actually be produced by vintage 1972 office equipment. Dan Rather's reputation would be restored and the GWB campaign and the right would immediately be on the defensive.
But we haven't see that happen. Typewriters of the day still exist. A TANG office certainly didn't have anything fancy. Just go to E-Bay...it's all there. Dan Blather says typewriters of the early 70s could produce proportional fonts and superscripts. It ought to be a snap. Anybody could do the experiments with the old technology, yet nobody has produced an exact copy of the memos (except anybody with MS Word!).
The reward for such a demonstration is up to $17,600 and climbing. Come on all you gutless wonders at the DU and around the loony left. Put up or shut up. If you think the memos are authentic and were produced with 70s technology then simply show us.
This is all part of Hitlery's plan to rebuild the Democrat Party in her image in 2008. ;-)
LOL! They WON'T because they CAN'T.
Perhaps if you told the DUmmies the moola was going to the SwiftVets if they can't produce, they would try a little harder(to no avail of course) LOL.
With Word it's a few minutes of effort. Let's say 20 min which is generous for a simple memo. In ten times that amount primitive device should be able to do it say in 3 to 4 hours? At almost $18k that is pretty close to $6000 per hour in the worst economy since Hoover's Great Depression.
I want CBS to pay in corporate blood (market capitalization) for what they have done. They deserve to be in Chapter 11.
I suspect that out there in liberal land there are right now several dozen folks perched in front of dusty old IBM Composers and Executives, wads of discarded paper at their feet, staring glazed-eyed at the dark limitless horizon of a deep fink and depression.
Many will try, that will be for certain.
It's like the FL election all over again. They need the Broward election supervisors to come up and "operate" the typewriter.

They could also reveal who the originator of these documents is and provide the original documents for inspection.
If they are so thoroughly convinced that these things are not forgeries, then there is nothing for them to worry about.
Well, they may be staring at a "fink" too if they're watching CBS News.
What a mental image! Hope they don't get any nasty paper cuts.
Everything has risks. That's what brains are for :} Free Republic is a self correcting forum. To think that the opponent is smarter than you, that's the first mistake. To think that the opponent has more knowledge than you, that's the second mistake. Not knowing how to use google, you're screwed.
I beg your pardon; we are NOT amateurs.
CBasS us twisting in the wind. Why cut the rope and bring them down?
If these documents were genuine it would be the easiest thing in the world for the person who provided them to CBS to step forward and clear up the mystery surrounding them. It would also be the most logical thing for them to do.
That fact that CBS News is sitting tight and hoping everyone will just go away and leave them alone speaks volumes.
