I think this mystery is closer to being solved.

We know from recent news articles that Robert Strong is a "professor" in Austin, Texas. There's a Robert W. Strong listed on the faculty or staff of St. Edward's University in Austin. His official title is "Post-Doctoral Associate". You can see some of the classes this Robert W. Strong taught in the links from this Google search. They sound rather wishy-washy, research-oriented and open ended.

Caution: We still don't know this is the real Robert Strong for sure.

The USA Today article. I can't quote from it, since it's a Gannette Snoozepaper. Strong is quoted near the end, in the "Colleagues" and "Family and Associates" sections of the article.

Amazing. Once again, not a single main stream newspaper or network is able to interview or identify "Professor" Strong, except for the distorted info provided by CBS itself. And the blogosphere comes through with the info.

Here's a new voice in all of this from a Fox News online article:

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,132157,00.html

Retired Col. Maurice Udell, the unit's instructor pilot who helped train Bush, said Friday he thought the documents were fake.

"I completely am disgusted with this [report] I saw on '60 Minutes,'" Udell said. "That's not true. I was there. I knew Jerry Killian. I went to Vietnam with Jerry Killian in 1968."

Here's someone who knew Killian and worked with him, as opposed to Strong who didn't. Who has more credibility?

Further, Strong said that he doesn’t think it matters whether the documents are genuine are not. Like many English professors, Strong has always been anti-Bush, and he and his wife made anti-Bush comments to our correspondent during this conversation. At the same time, notwithstanding his claim to have served in the Texas Air National Guard, Strong admitted that he had never served with or even met Lt. Bush. He admitted further that Jerry Killlian had never discussed Lt. Bush with him. Strong acknowledged that he had “no personal knowledge about Bush’s service.”

By my reckoning, there are only two "witnesses" relied on by CBS News to support its forgery scam who have not already repudiated the statements attributed to them by CBS: Marcel Matley...

Mr Matley wrote a paper in 1999 stating that one could not prove the authenticity of copied documents, but in some cases copied documents could be proven to be forgeries.

By Mr Mately's own words, be admits he really can't prove Dan Rather's documents are real.

Post docs are usually young folks....mainly because this is the equivalent of an internship after one has finished your PhD...most folks who would have been old enough to serve in 1968 to 1970 are of an age that being in a post doc position would be A) economically stupid and B) the most unlikely thing I have heard since...ummm I don't know, maybe , Dan Rather "defending" his position....Look this is probabaly NOT the guy you are looking for

Robert Strong is an inoffensive English professor who dislikes, but has never met, President Bush; he has no idea whether the CBS documents are authentic; he never discussed Lt. Bush with Jerry Killian; and he has “no personal knowledge” about President Bush’s National Guard service.

For a man with absolutely no knowledge, he sure throws the word "unconscionable" around lightly.

From National Review (the CBS transcript)

RATHER: Robert Strong was an administrative officer for the Texas Air National Guard during the Vietnam years. He knew Colonel Jerry Killian, the man credited with writing the documents. And paperwork, like these documents, was his specialty. He is standing by his judgment that the documents are real.

When you read through these documents, is there any doubt in your mind that these are genuine?

Mr. ROBERT STRONG (Former Administrator, Texas Air National Guard): Well, they are compatible with the way business was done at that time. They are compatible with the man that I remember Jerry Killian being. I don't see anything in the documents that are discordant with what were the times, what were the situation and what were the people that were involved.

RATHER: Strong says the highly charged political atmosphere of the Guard at the time was perfectly represented in the newly revealed documents.

Mr. STRONG: It verged on outright corruption in terms of the favors that were done, the power that was traded, and it was unconscionable. From a moral and ethical standpoint, it was unconscionable.

Date: January 18 1968
Time: 2100
Bob Strong received a strange phone call, urging him to be at "Heaven's Gate," on the Longleat Estate, at 2100 on the 18th. He drove there with Sybil Champion, and they saw a UFO land on the estate. They went to the site & found that the UFO was no larger than a soup plate. Down a fine golden ladder climbed more than 24 4" tall humanoids, which then "grew" to normal size, shook hands with the witnesses, & engaged them in conversation. Strong was invited to take a ride in the saucer; with the crewmembers, shrank to 4" size and climbed up the ladder. The ship rose with a whistling noise, "becoming larger." Sybil waited 8 hours, after which the UFO returned & let Strong out, still diminutive; he regained his normal height as he walked toward Sybil. As to the voyage, all he was "permitted" to tell Shuttlewood was that it concerned "the inner core or central ball of Earth."

Is this the guy?

This article is amazing to me. Think about it. A blog reader and contributor... could be your neighbor, a guy you work with... turned man on the street interviewer for the renegade internet press. Wow. Asking more intelligent questions than most MSM would think to ask or print.

I have always been a strong backer of the net, but I naively dismissed bloggers as narcissictic and unimportant. I am now in awe of the transparency to the news that bloggers have brought about, and admit the error of my ways.

Not sure if you realized that the class taught by the Ann P. Strong that I cited in my last post was found at the link you provided to St. Edward's University scheule. Since Robert W. Strong is also listed as teaching at St. Edwards, I figured they were a married couple.
