This Bev Harris person is a Democrat partisan. She posts on DU. I'm not 100% sure that she is a DNC operative. She may just be a useful tool. But there is no question she pushed the Bill Burkett "Bush was AWOL and cleansed his military records" story in 2000 and is pushing the "electronic voting machines are bad story now".

William Safire mentions a Newsweek investigation in progress:

Newsweek (which likes the word "discredited") has apparently begun an external investigation: it names "a disgruntled former Guard officer" as a principal source for CBS, noting "he suffered two nervous breakdowns" and "unsuccessfully sued for medical expenses."
