What would a Bush landslide/mandate mean for America?

Posted on 09/13/2004 12:04:31 PM PDT by 1Old Pro

This race is close and an energized base is required for the ultimate bush victory.

That said, what would a Bush mandate mean for America? Reagan was the last President to to have a real mandate from a huge victory. A mandate by Bush could be significant. Here are just some thoughts, please add others.

1) The U.N. would be a big loser
2) Tax cuts would once again be in vogue and permanent
3) Judges, judges, judges. Conservative judges would be appointed even over the Dem fillibusters.
4) The war on terror would continue, thank goodness.
5) Would we finally get tort reform, social-security reform, medicare reform, tax reform?

Probably not. But I'd settle for a bit more tax relief.

I dunno about that. Denny Hastert has talked about it, and W has shown interest. However, from a purely political point, they could spend 4 years generating interest and then have the '08 candidate ride on that wave...

The Dems would start screaming for a re-vote claiming President Bush, with the help of Haliburton, rigged the electronic ballot machines....

What is the delta for an election to be considered a 'landslide'? Ten percent (Bush 55, Querry 45) or better?

I ask because you know the MSM will never call the election a 'landslide' for Bush regardless of the outcome.

How exactly, other than through temporary recess appointments? I don't think even the wildest optimists really believe we're going to get a filibuster-proof majority.

Agreed. I'm just frustrated because Bush could have been building support for something like the Fair Tax all along. Then we might actually see it. But as it is, there's no way. He hasn't even endorsed a specific proposal yet.

10 percent might very well translate to a landslide. If Bush wins the toss-up states it will certainly be a landslide.

The Vietnam Era would finally be over.

The kook-nut wing of the Democrat won't let go of Vietnam (and all the free love they got on the side) until you pry it away from their cold, dead hands.

With a mandate, the President could use the bully pulpit to go directly to the people to push for his appointments. The Dems would be scared to go against a very popular Presient if their own races are close.
